I have taken a variety of Undergrad math courses including Discrete Math. Discrete is an interesting course that brings in probability, proof writing, logic, and number theory among other topics. I can help students to improve their understanding of how to write proofs, apply counting strategies, follow logic to reach conclusions, work with the Chinese Remainder Theorem, Fermat's Little Theorem, modular arithmetic, etc. I am currently in the Cal Teach Credential Program at UC Berkeley and am a High School Math Teacher. In college I extensively studied mathematical proof and set theory, and have also succeeded in courses on combinatorics and probability. I am a Naperville North High School and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign graduate with a degree in Mathematics. I have extensive problem-solving experience including winning 1st place at the 2007 ICTM State Math Contest, qualifying for the USA Math Olympiad, and placing in the top 500 in the national Putnam competition. My tutoring methods vary student-by-student, but I specialize in breaking down problems and asking questions to guide the student to [more]

I have a PhD in pure mathematics and can manage teaching discrete math courses. I have a PhD in Mathematics from Colorado State University in 2013. I have 5+ years experience teaching and tutoring undergraduate level math courses. I am available to tutor in a variety of math courses for grades 6 and up and also college level courses including algebra, calculus, discrete math, math for social sciences, probability and statistics. I can also help with SAT test preparation for math levels 1 and 2. I am passionate about teaching and have a never-give-up attitude. My experie... [more]

I have many years of experience with application of discrete math in development of computer programs. I have studied and developed algorithms for encryption and many other purposes. I have studied logic and metamathematics at U.C. Berkeley. I have taught logic and set theory at U.C. Berkeley and Cal State University at Chico. Hi! I'm enthusiastic about helping young people become outstanding students by assisting with writing skills and tutoring in math and physics. I'm most interested in improving reasoning and communication skills essential for academic success. I prefer to work with famili [more]

I received an A+ in my undergraduate Discrete Mathematics course at UC Berkeley. I use discrete math frequently when performing amortized analysis on computer programs. I also use discrete structures when finding approximate solutions to integrals in both physics and calculus. Just for fun, I like to re-derive formulas like Gauss' method for summing the numbers from 1 to n (there are n/2 pairs of numbers that sum to n + 1, therefore the answer is n*(n + 1)/2, cool right?). I am recent graduate of UC Berkeley's College of Engineering. While in school I studied a variety of disciplines including [more]

I majored in mathematical and computational sciences at Stanford in 2006 and have been tutoring up to AB calculus and statistics for 14 years. Statistics was about 1/3 of my math major, and I made an A in my number theory class which had a cryptography portion. Probability (especially combinatorics) is one of my favorite concepts to teach. Almost all of my kids have raised their scores by at least one letter grade. I have been tutoring students for 14 years in California, Manhattan, England and Houston, TX. All of my students raise their scores by at least a letter grade. SAT students hav [more]

I have taught Discrete Math (Math 42) during Fall 2008 at San Jose State U. Also, I have a Ph.D. in Math and my research area/Master Thesis is closely related to Discrete Math. Local (Pleasanton/Dublin/San Ramon) HS have started. Please contact me soon for your Math tutoring needs for best schedule. I have accommodated my students' need from HW to extra practice for years. Questions are welcome. Thanks for your support. (update: a student of 3-4 years is going to UC Berkeley, another to MIT.) I have years of Math tutoring (no Statistics) experience in Tri-Valley area including new Common Cor [more]

I have taken discrete mathematics as an undergraduate at the United States Naval Academy and received an 'A' in the course. Discrete Mathematics is the foundation for many of the following high-level Computer Science courses I have taken as an undergraduate, so I routinely referenced my notes from Discrete Math. I assisted many of my classmates with the course both while I took it and once I had completed the course. I tutor because I enjoy seeing my students excel in subjects they have previously struggled with. I have found that more rewarding than gaining knowledge and earning good grade m [more]

I'm a computer science major at UC Santa Cruz. I've passed Discrete Math CMPE 16, and I'm in upper division courses where discrete math is constantly used. I'm a second year Computer Science major at UC Santa Cruz who has tutored in math for over 3 years through a math learning center and online tutoring company in all levels from elementary math to calculus. My tutoring strategy is first see how much the student knows and determine the kind of support they need. For example, a student will start working on a problem and if they're lost or confused then I'll show them step-by-step the most [more]

I began tutoring discrete math privately four years ago, drawing on my background as a UCLA math major. I have been enjoying using all my years of experience in probability, statistics, and other math tutoring to help students in discrete math succeed in this challenging course. Even excellent math students often find themselves stretched to capacity in this highly diverse and sometimes exotic branch of mathematics. One of my greatest fulfillments has been to see failing students restored to passing grades! [more]
