Special Needs and Wilson Tutoring

I am Level One Certified in the Wilson Reading System. I have been utilizing multi sensory reading lessons for students with dyslexia for 5 years now and love to see the progress that I have observed. I have passed the Praxis for Reading and also have taken over 30 semester hours on the subject of learning to read, between my PreK-3 license and my Mild to Moderate Intervention Specialist license courses. Students need to be able to decode and encode the English language and providing structured practice and review improves the comprehension of students with dyslexia. [more]

My parents bought me a hearing aid that was primitive, but it was the only technology in audiological assistive devices available at that time. I didn't want to "look different" growing up so I never wore it. I went out of my way to avoid bringing attention to myself so I sat as far away from the front of class as I possibly could. I felt "cut off" from the rest of the wor... [more]

Intervention Specialist with Orton-Gillingham training

I am currently a licensed intervention specialist and I am highly qualified in reading, I have worked with students with dyslexia and have taken coursework on teaching children with dyslexia. Each method will depend on the individual needs, strengths and weaknesses of the student. Every student learns differently and my job is to find out how each student learns and tailor my methods to the student. I would do a lot of hand-on activities to explain the concept and use a lot of manipulatives which will be visual to the learner. I will use movement or pictures for vocabulary if needed.
