Lucy @ Speaking of Language

I have several years' experience working with dyslexic students of all ages. My undergraduate education in communicative disorders, as well as my training toward certification in the Orton-Gillingham Approach (which is proven to work well with dyslexic students) have provided an excellent foundation. To work with students who have dyslexia, I use proven multi-sensory methods to teach phonics that include the following steps: - phonemic awareness: learning individual sounds and blending them into words - phoneme/grapheme correspondence: which sounds are represented by which letter(s)and how [more]

Champion Tutoring

Recently I have been working with three adult students who suffer dyslexia in Mathematics and English. We do flash cards and I use different techniques to help them understand the problem doing it over and over again. I also take them back to basics where other teachers and tutors gave up on them. The key to teaching a student with dyslexia is patience! Hello, my name is Kimberly and it is a pleasure to get to know you. I am a psychology major at OCCC in Oklahoma City and take my classes online. I like to work with people and have taught a class teaching about the Holy bible through my minist [more]

I am a certified teacher (P-4) with 15 years experience

Dyslexia is a language disorder that can be overcome with intensive, structures lessons. Having taught for 10 years in Kindergarten, Dyslexia was often seen. One of my responsibilities was to administer the state mandated screening to determine a students weaknesses and strengths. After screening, lessons were made specific to the individuals needs. Lessons are taught one on one with teacher/student collaboration. Frequent evaluation and teacher observation shows students progress and provides necessary information to either reteach a skill or advance to a new skill. [more]

Economist, Math Lover, and Veteran with diverse teaching experience

I have worked with many great students that have varying learning disabilities, including dyslexia. Often dyslexia is not an independent disability and there are other things also inhibiting reading and sight-comprehension development, which I have learned to approach on a case by case basis, as every student has different needs, severities, and strengths. While working with students with dyslexia I have developed a method of auditory reinforcement for the word and letter patterns they struggle with and breaking down words so they only have to focus on a little at a time. I have experience wor [more]

I love teaching English, Reading, Spelling, and Phonics.

I have my Master's in Special Education and have taught several students with dyslexia. I had one student in particular that had dyslexia but wasn't diagnosed as having it. When the year started he didn't like reading, flunked all of his spelling test and couldn't write words or sentences. Math was his best subject but he did get numbers backwards. By the end of the school year with taking special care in presenting his lessons to him, he was making 100 on his spelling test and enjoying reading and writing sentences better. So I can handle students with dyslexia quite well. [more]
