Lucy @ Speaking of Language

I have several years' experience working with dyslexic students of all ages. My undergraduate education in communicative disorders, as well as my training toward certification in the Orton-Gillingham Approach (which is proven to work well with dyslexic students) have provided an excellent foundation. To work with students who have dyslexia, I use proven multi-sensory methods to teach phonics that include the following steps: - phonemic awareness: learning individual sounds and blending them into words - phoneme/grapheme correspondence: which sounds are represented by which letter(s)and how [more]

At Ease with All Students

I have a Master's Degree in Education (Special Education) from Virginia Commonwealth University, and I am a certified special education teacher. I have taught students with a range of learning disabilities, including those with reading disorders (Dyslexia). I recently (August, 2016) completed a full 6-day (40-hour) training in the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is one of the oldest and most effective interventions available to students identified to have reading challenges. Learning is an energetic and organized process that should leave room for fun. I like to help students of almost an [more]

I have a master's degree in special education. I have many strategies to help struggling students. When I work with students with dyslexia I focus learning on visual and auditory modalities. I like to use notebook paper turned sideways to help with math and have many other useful strategies. I am a certified elementary school teacher with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Economist, Math Lover, and Veteran with diverse teaching experience

I have worked with many great students that have varying learning disabilities, including dyslexia. Often dyslexia is not an independent disability and there are other things also inhibiting reading and sight-comprehension development, which I have learned to approach on a case by case basis, as every student has different needs, severities, and strengths. While working with students with dyslexia I have developed a method of auditory reinforcement for the word and letter patterns they struggle with and breaking down words so they only have to focus on a little at a time. I have experience wor [more]

I love teaching English, Reading, Spelling, and Phonics.

I have my Master's in Special Education and have taught several students with dyslexia. I had one student in particular that had dyslexia but wasn't diagnosed as having it. When the year started he didn't like reading, flunked all of his spelling test and couldn't write words or sentences. Math was his best subject but he did get numbers backwards. By the end of the school year with taking special care in presenting his lessons to him, he was making 100 on his spelling test and enjoying reading and writing sentences better. So I can handle students with dyslexia quite well. [more]
