Advanced Music Theory

I studied music education and the percussive arts in both undergraduate and graduate degree programs at one of the top music schools in the nation. Timpani is one of my main instruments and without a working knowledge of good aural technique, the instrument becomes very difficult...if not impossible to play fluently. Other than that, I continue to study and implement ear training daily. From an educational standpoint, ear training is a pillar in every school of music's pedagogy and a valid skill for fluency in musicianship. [more]

Music Teacher Needed?

I have perfect pitch. This has been extremely helpful in determining who is in tune with their voice and/or instrument and who isn't. Ear training has been an essential part of my musicianship growth, and it has helped me teach young musicians on the importance of intonation and virtuosity. I am pursuing a BM in Violin Performance at Georgia State University. I love teaching music. I started my musical journey at the age of 4, and I have always wanted to keep learning and performing since then. I first started out with the violin at a young age, and I started to pick up the oboe in high school [more]

Musician; Classically trained violinist.

As an instrumentalist I know that the basis of music is training the ear in three distinct proficiencies: pitch, intervals, and meter. It is impossible to advance in any musical discipline without "trained" ears. This starts with understanding pitch and how each pitch is unique. The aptitude spectrum of beginners ranges from those who simply cannot match or reproduce a sounded pitch from a note struck on a keyboard to those who can independently sing a pitch on cue. As an ear training instructor, I don?t concede that any individual is "tone-deaf," because a variety of external factors coul [more]

Need a tutor? So glad you asked!

Ear training was included in my undergraduate work, and still is something I use today. Since I also write music, it is often helpful to be able to produce the sounds in my head, if I can, before writing them down. Ear training is especially helpful for singers since they must rely on their mind and body to produce the correct sounds, rather than with the aid of an instrument. I am quite capable of doing this and helping others, having been around singers, been a singer myself, and even taught others how to sing. [more]

I studied ear training at the University of South Alabama and Georgia State University. My experience in this subject helps me with cantoring at my church. I can work with students one-on-one or in a group setting. That choice is yours. As far as my teaching style is concerned, I prefer the lecture-type setting when lessons about history and/or political science are concerned as well as lecture style if it is music history. I was a substitute teacher in the Bibb Public Schools System from 2000 to 2009 and I am a product of that same school system. I think that education can be saved but w [more]

Music/Audio Tutor

I took a class a couple years ago, my first year in college, that was about listening and analysis. I still have the book for that class that includes a CD to help listen for differences in frequency for a wide variety of things. I also have been running sound systems for a couple different churches the past few years and am trying to get more familiar with putting the skills I learned into practice. I am not a professional with a lifetime of experience, but I have been passionate about music for over ten years. In those ten years, I learned piano, theory, history, composition, audio productio [more]

Guitarist with extensive performance and teaching experience

I have studied voice and ear training for jazz improvisation. I have a Bachelors and Masters in Jazz Studies and have studied ear training extensively. I've played thousands of gigs across the Southeast and enjoy teaching motivated beginners as well as intermediate a [more]
