Los Angeles Drum Lessons, Music Education, and more!

As a graduate of Berklee College of Music I have passed multiple courses and assessments based on Solfege and Ear Training, as well as had the chance to apply these skills in improvisation. I am a Music Education major at the Berklee, and have also had the opportunity to tutor my classmates in the subject of Ear Training. Previous to Berklee I was an officer in my high school chorus, and I taught ear training exercises to my classmates. My educational background and teaching/tutoring experience in the field of Ear Training makes me very qualified to pass on this skill to others. [more]

Guitar and Bass Lessons

While at college I passed an ear training course. My students/bands consistently ask me to teach them songs I am not familiar with. I look the song up on the internet and, using my ear and music theory, decipher the parts. Hey, I'd love to talk to you in more detail about lessons and my teaching style, but will give you a brief description here. Rather than have my students buy a book, I custom tailor a book for them based on three things... 1) What it is they want to learn 2) What artists/bands they are interested in 3) What their current skill level happens to be I make all of [more]

Experienced Piano and Music Theory Teacher

I completed Ear Training I & II on a college level. In the courses, I was challenged to identify intervals, chord qualities and scales. When I teach choirs, we learn by "rote" which also means by ear. I'm Pierre, I graduated from Drury University with a Bachelors of Art in Psychology. During my vigorous study of behavior and research. I enrolled frequently into music related courses as I was aiming to make music my minor. I completed two courses of music theory and one course of sight singing and ear training. I kept myself challenged by taking piano lessons and learning more classical music. [more]

The lessons and approach you need.

The jazz ear training course at Musicians Institute is fast and intense, covering basic harmony in any given key, chord recognition and particular notes that give it it's quality (minor, major, dominant, minor 7 etc etc...) all the way to extreme dissonance recognition (flat 5 chords, augmented and diminished chords etc etc). Identifying modulation, and various changes were also a huge part of the course, along with rhythm identification. I've completed 8 quarters of this ear training, and I'm always being hired for private tutoring in this subject. My method for teaching ranges from fast-pa [more]

Singing and matching a note that is played begins the program and begins each session. Then we will break down the intervals ans sing solfegg scales, major. minor, and diminished chords. The intervals between notes of these chords and repeated each session. Skeletal harmony - the patterns of the song's chords and the eventual arrival at the sub-dominant and dominant chord - is taught with references to Mozart and his work; we then analyze the basics of contrapuntal melodies. Pitch is critical when matching a note vocally as well as on instruments. The use of tuning forks and more sophisticated [more]

International Recording Artist Teaches Piano & Ear Training!

I was trained classically, and by ear when I was 14. My professor would stand me by a chalkboard, he would play music and I'd have to write it out as he played it. A lot of what I play is by ear as well, if I'm playing at restaurants, etc., most of the music I play is stuff I've sounded out by ear. I've been playing piano since I was 12 years old. I was trained by ear, and I love to teach students the same way. I do think music theory is important, so I teach basic theory, all scales, and I like to balance the lessons between what students 'need' to learn, and what they 'want to learn'. I alw [more]
