Hi! I am a Long Beach Poly PACE alumna and graduate from UCI (double majored in cognitive science and philosophy) willing to help out high school students with their math skills, especially those struggling in Prealgebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2/Trig. Math has always been a strong point of mine, and I have always enjoyed helping others improve their math skills by making the subject as painless as possible. While at Poly I was nominated for the Pursuit of Excellence award (the hig... [more]

We will study elementary math concepts including: whole numbers, measurement units, fractions, equations and formulas, and data representation and analysis. In addition, we will cover basic two-dimensional geometry, rounding and significant figures, estimation, decimals, percentages, proportions, negative numbers, exponents and radicals. Lastly, we will study compass-and-straightedge, congruence, similarity, patterns, and slopes. I believe students should be confident in their math skills. By getting good grades in school, their options in life (e.g. jobs, career paths) are kept open. I g [more]

For many years, I have helped a lot of elementary students with their math. I enjoy working with them. All my students have improved their grades and become confident in their math studies. Each student improves their grades and doing well on the tests. I love to help students to learn math. Each student is different, so I often adjust my teaching method for each individual. I always try to stimulate my student?s interest in math learning. The interest mainly comes from having confidence in math, so my purpose is to build my students? confidence in math. I am a recent graduate of Cal State Long Beach. I have a B.S. in microbiology with a minor in chemistry, but have enjoyed learning and teaching other subjects. I started tutoring while in high school and have had the opportunity to adapt my teaching methods to various learning styles. I've tutored all age groups from elementary to college and have covered subjects from Spanish to Algebra. I think the best part about tutoring is watching a student have that breakthrough moment where they... [more]

Hello! My name is Fion. I graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Biology and from Western University of Health Sciences with a M.S. in Biomedical Sciences. My coursework in the preparation for my degrees have been very science- and math-heavy, and these courses hadn't always been easy. Sometimes just attending discussion sessions and office hours are simply not enough. Sometimes I needed that extra help from someone who could spend the time I needed one-on-one to breakdown the concepts that I str... [more]

First off: Hello, and thank you very much for considering me for your tutoring needs. My name is Mark M., born and raised in La Puente, California. Bishop Amat graduate, Rio Hondo College transfer, and currently one year away from getting my Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering major. I have always had a strong attraction to math and sciences, even when I was as young as 7 or 8. I am enrolled in Chemistry that deals with Equilibrium and Kinetics, Physics that emphasizes Statics, and le... [more]

I have worked with kids that come to me discouraged in their math assignments and homework. I work with them to show them how to overcome such challenges. I find that often times students are in overcrowded classrooms and do not understand how the teacher explained math. Working with students one on one gives me opportunity to explain and then for them to practice. The 2018-2019 school year has begun for most students. I am enjoying meeting new families and also greeting returning students. The popular after school tutoring time slots continue filling up rather quickly. I do have just a few a [more]

I?ve found Elementary math students require a completely different approach than older kids; I bring games, flashcards and fun math books to our lessons in order to help them learn in fun and engaging ways. Through this, they can shed any fears of K-6th math as it becomes fun and interesting, helping them lay the solid foundation that will help them succeed now and throughout their schooling! I could help your kid with any aspects (basic arithmetic, fractions, geometry, word problems) of any math curriculum (common core, Beast Academy, homeschooling, Singapore math). [more]

Hello! My name is Alea. I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Biola University and the Torrey Honors Institute. At Biola University, I studied for an English major with the hope of one day becoming a teacher. While there, I gained meaningful experience as a Teacher's Assistant, essay grader, and discussion leader. I have spent my first year after graduation teaching part time for Torrey Academy, a classically structured Humanities program for homeschooled high school students. In the ... [more]
