I have helped many students turn their geometry grades around. First students must know how to solve equations since this will be incorporated into many of the problems. When it comes to building proofs I have found that it's important for students to first memorize the theorems. Then we walk through different kinds of proofs. Observing how different kinds of proofs are laid out really helps students grasp the process involved. If needed, I provide students with additional practice on any concepts before quizzes or tests. After college, where I graduated with a Mathematics/Economics major, I started working as an actuary. A lot of my actuarial work included developing complex mathematical models for insurance, then using those models to help companies determine how to invest insurance premiums to mak... [more]

Life as a parent? Busy! From running one kid off to soccer practice to trying to get dinner on the table at a decent hour, the last thing you want to hear is your child say, ?I?m lost? when the dreaded math homework makes an appearance. Suddenly, you?re worried and you begin asking yourself ?Is he not trying hard enough? Does she need extra help? Is the teacher not doing their job? What kind of math is this anyway??
