I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Swarthmore College (top liberal arts college near Philadelphia, PA) with double major in Mathematics (with an emphasis on Statistics) and Economics. I earned a 3.99 GPA and received academic scholarship for being an outstanding student every year. I also had a year-long research experience in Statistics and am a published author. In terms of standardized tests, I scored an 800 on the SAT Math, Physics, and Chemistry subject tests, as well as an 800 and 750 on t... [more]

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I am a math/reading/writing and organizational skills tutor for students from kindergarten to college. A little bit about me: In May 2015, I graduated summa cum laude from the Dominican University of California, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies/Teacher Education, a minor in mathematics and Honors. While at Dominican, I had ample classroom and one-on-one experience with students. I worked as an assistant teacher in six different elementary... [more]

I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2016 with a B.A. in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. I've always been interested in teaching, but decided to focus more on getting technical degrees while in college. In my experience, math can be a lot more fun when you work through problems together with other people. It becomes more problem solving rather than just plain old math. During my undergrad, I took an education course where we focused on developing lesson plans for teaching a middle sch... [more]

When I began tutoring a few years ago, I firmly believed that anyone could do well in mathematics, all the way through Calculus, provided you are relatively fluent in a few formulas and make time for regular problem sets. My experience over that time has only confirmed my suspicions, and its has been a great pleasure to work with many of my students. I have always found joy in getting to the point of a big concept and keeping the focus on the purposeful real-world applications that many of ... [more]

I have a PhD in Economics from UCDavis and a Masters in Mathematics. I have a broad background in Math/Science and Economics. I have taught a number of courses and have previously worked as a GRE/GMAT/SAT/ACT instructor. I am well regarded as an excellent instructor and am able to deal with students with a wide range of abilities in math, finance and economics. I worked a number of years as a data analyst and computer programmer and am well versed in communicating with people who have a varie... [more]

I'm a lifetime learning enthusiast who loves to share! My focus is on compassionate instruction; I work to build up students study skills while mastering the material in a constructive, supporting environment. My formal education consists of a BS in Mathematics and a BA in Economics. I have supplemented these informally by reading widely in Philosophy, History, Political Science, Biology, and Physics. I have a great passion for the history of ideas, which allows me to convey a subject's pla... [more]

Geometry is math and algebra made visual. In kindergarten you learned to identify circles, squares, and triangles. Now you get to learn about some additional very interesting polygons--the parallelogram, rhombus, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, etc. Perimeters, areas, volumes, angles, ratios, probability--all these words indicate measurements and relationships. Math teaches us to use what we know to find out what we need to know. I have worked with students of all ages and levels, from preschool through graduate school. While I have expertise in teaching reading, literature, writing and creative w [more]

I work hard to make math comprehensible, memorable, and interesting. There is no reason a student of mine should not gain a better grade. Incidentally, I have passed the rigorous CSET math sections I & II, which includes Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and more advanced math as well. Are you frustrated with your performance? Or do you just need a bit more help? I like making learning fun, interactive, effective, guilt-free, and stress-free. I've been tutoring lots of students of all ages. I'd love helping you to learn. Let me mention some of my experiences. I'm a UC Berkeley grad in Psychol [more]

Tutoring is an act of observation. It succeeds where normal instruction fails because it is geared toward a student's particular strengths. My best experiences as a tutor have been with the students who needed me most, learning how they needed to learn. I have been a tutor in one setting or another since childhood. As an undergraduate I was a teacher's assistant in English, German and Astronomy, a grader in Calculus and a tutor in Physics for scientists and engineers. I have continued to... [more]
