I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Swarthmore College (top liberal arts college near Philadelphia, PA) with double major in Mathematics (with an emphasis on Statistics) and Economics. I earned a 3.99 GPA and received academic scholarship for being an outstanding student every year. I also had a year-long research experience in Statistics and am a published author. In terms of standardized tests, I scored an 800 on the SAT Math, Physics, and Chemistry subject tests, as well as an 800 and 750 on t... [more]

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I am a math/reading/writing and organizational skills tutor for students from kindergarten to college. A little bit about me: In May 2015, I graduated summa cum laude from the Dominican University of California, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies/Teacher Education, a minor in mathematics and Honors. While at Dominican, I had ample classroom and one-on-one experience with students. I worked as an assistant teacher in six different elementary... [more]

With my unique background and education, I can work successfully with a wide variety of students who have a wide variety of "issues" with learning math. I understand where the problems are, and how best to get past them and onto a confident path to math success. My undergraduate degree is in mathematics, and I have worked as a computer professional, as well as a math tutor. My doctoral degree is in psychology. I think this is a wonderful combination: I can relate to students, understand t... [more]

- Are you "struggling" with mathematics? - Do you want to improve your grade in math? - Do you want to take your math tests with greater confidence? - Do you want to make math more fun? OR -- - Are you already scoring an ?A? in math but want to learn even more, so that you can be fully prepared for the next higher level of instruction? - Are you at (or near) the head of the class and feeling unchallenged? - Do you want to make math more fun? When I began tutoring a few years ago, I firmly believed that anyone could do well in mathematics, all the way through Calculus, provided you are relatively fluent in a few formulas and make time for regular problem sets. My experience over that time has only confirmed my suspicions, and its has been a great pleasure to work with many of my students. I have always found joy in getting to the point of a big concept and keeping the focus on the purposeful real-world applications that many of ... [more]

I'm a lifetime learning enthusiast who loves to share! My focus is on compassionate instruction; I work to build up students study skills while mastering the material in a constructive, supporting environment. My formal education consists of a BS in Mathematics and a BA in Economics. I have supplemented these informally by reading widely in Philosophy, History, Political Science, Biology, and Physics. I have a great passion for the history of ideas, which allows me to convey a subject's pla... [more]

Geometry is math and algebra made visual. In kindergarten you learned to identify circles, squares, and triangles. Now you get to learn about some additional very interesting polygons--the parallelogram, rhombus, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, etc. Perimeters, areas, volumes, angles, ratios, probability--all these words indicate measurements and relationships. Math teaches us to use what we know to find out what we need to know. I have worked with students of all ages and levels, from preschool through graduate school. While I have expertise in teaching reading, literature, writing and creative w [more]

I work hard to make math comprehensible, memorable, and interesting. There is no reason a student of mine should not gain a better grade. Incidentally, I have passed the rigorous CSET math sections I & II, which includes Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and more advanced math as well. Are you frustrated with your performance? Or do you just need a bit more help? I like making learning fun, interactive, effective, guilt-free, and stress-free. I've been tutoring lots of students of all ages. I'd love helping you to learn. Let me mention some of my experiences. I'm a UC Berkeley grad in Psychol [more]

Geometry has perhaps the most varying curriculum across all high school math courses. Proofs and constructions make up the core of some geometry curricula but are nearly absent from others. This can make finding a tutor difficult, since a particular geometry course might include niche subjects that are not a large part of future standard math education. Over 7 years of general science and math tutoring, I have instructed students in many geometry courses. I know what to expect and can help with any high school geometry course. [more]
