I exhibited talent in math from an early age & remember grasping mathematical concepts quickly & easily. In high school geometry, I immediately realized that the logic, proofs, relationships, and processes easily made sense to me, and I earned a high average without special effort. When I took the SAT, my math score was in the top 6% in the nation. Though not a math major in college, I nonetheless continued my math study & deepened my command of the logic, processes, and practical applications of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics. I have since used my talent & knowledge in geomet [more]

I completed my geometry on my own in high school, and enjoyed the differences in thinking style between algebra and geometry. Students who desire mathematical maturity should be diligent in their study of geometry, as it will prepare them for upper-level courses at the university level. I have had a long (30 years) and satisfying career in software development, but I was a math major in college. I helped my two daughters through their math classes, and they were always saying I should be a teacher. While I have enjoyed computer programming, math has always been my first love, and in particular [more]

I have students develop vocabulary note cards which include the definition and its pictorial representation. Since Geometry is a visual subject, it is important to understand the terminology that describe spatial relationships in angles, Geometric shapes, and solids. A formula chart is useful for referencing common perimeter and area formulas. I can supply a scientific calculator, protractor, and compass. It also is a good idea to purchase graph paper and a hand held eraser. I am a certified Special Education teacher with an emphasis on teaching math skills. I have approximately twenty-fi [more]

I have a Texas Teaching Certificate in Math. Grades 6-12. My goal is to provide a convenient and helpful service. My joy in my work comes from seeing students understand something for the first time, like how to pick, arrange and plug in the correct equations to create a solution to a physics problem! I'm a full time, online tutor committed to my students 9a-9p / 6 days a week and after 2:00 on Sundays. I do not have a set session length. For each student, I try to schedule enough time to cover that student's needs most of the time. For most stud... [more]

I have always enjoyed learning and education. I remember as a kid helping classmates understand certain concepts and having a feeling of satisfaction knowing I could teach something to someone else. My thirst for education has never ended. I grew up, went to college, studied electrical engineering for my undergraduate degree and worked designing computer chips for companies like Motorola and IBM. I eventually went back and received my master's degree in electrical engineering and worked at Sa... [more]

Geometry is one of the classes where I have seen some dramatic turnarounds in student performance. My experience has been that, due to the less formulaic nature of the class students get used to in arithmetic and algebra, they are not always sure what is expected of them in geometry. As a tutor, my goal is to help students understand what is expected of them in, for example, presenting a proof, as well as fill in any gaps in the required algebra they may have forgotten. I will instruct students to focus on the various postulates, theorems, and definitions required for success in geometry. Thes [more]

I have a Master's degree in Engineering and my interest towards teaching and mathematics made me choose this field. I have also been a teaching assistant at the University of Akron, OH for 2 years. I believe that every problem has more than one way of solving it. My teaching strategy would be -teach the students the concepts and let them explore the various methods to solve a problem. At the end of the week I would test the student to see if he/she has understood the topic thoroughly. ... [more]

I have been a software engineer at Motorola for more than 2 years now. I went to Texas A&M university, graduated May 2012 with Computer engineering major and Maths minor. I had straight A's on all the math classes I have ever taken. I have graduated with a very high GPA. I used to work as a peer teacher for the Engineering fundamentals class and as well as basic programming class for freshmen and sophomore. ... [more]

Concepts, Concepts, and Concepts !!! Concepts are really important aspect of mathematics. Once you have clear understanding of a concept, you can solve any problem in mathematics. Everyone has different way of learning a concept, I would help my students in understanding the concept through their way of thinking process in 1:1 sitting so that it will inculcate the interest and passion in mathematics. Champions breeding the champions. We practice through mastery, repeat problems to grasp t... [more]
