I was the math department chairperson at a national blue ribbon school before retiring. I chose to specialize in Geometry because the visual nature of the topic proved interesting. I approach Geometry intuitively without losing touch with rigor. My students sense my enthusiasm for the subject and respond with their own enthusiasm. I am also an engineer so my approach to the teaching of math includes lots of real-life problems. Geometry is particularly suitable to this approach since it attempts to understand spatial relationships. [more]

I have successfully fostered both improved grades and overall understanding with students in geometry. I use analytics and interpersonal skills to help pinpoint challenge areas and generate personal mastery by supporting previously missed concepts. I recognize that many students struggle in the areas of formula usage and algebraic concepts. I have taught and tutored geometric concepts for over 5 years and have a wealth of knowledge using it in applied mathematics and real-world application. I further have mastery of this area through other math related subjects and physical science integrati [more]

Geometry covers a wealth of topics relating to algebra, logic, and spatial understanding. I can help make any concept in Geometry easier to understand. I first began tutoring in high school for a program at my church. I enjoyed helping others solve problems and develop techniques to remember concepts or turn hard problems into easy problems. I believe that repetition and learning concepts is the key to learning any subject. That is my teaching strategy. I help my student understand why each step is needed. I love math and I have used it substantially in my undergraduate studies for my Electric [more]

Welcome to my Wyzant Profile; my name is Mr. Austin. I began teaching in the fall of 2012 in Savannah and saw that students really learn something with me. Teaching is what I will be doing for the rest of my professional life. During the day, I am a Special Education Teacher at a private school. I am working towards state certification in special education as well. With the nature of special education being intervention, I can get to meat of the problem with student learning. In the pa... I have a PhD from Trinity College Dublin with a completed dissertation on Shakespeare. Beyond my research, I also have sevens years experience teaching at universities, five of those years were specifically spent teaching college freshman how to write. I specialize in helping your child learn how to construct a solid essay that is well-argued, well researched, proofread, and uses extraordinary vocabulary. All of my composing tutoring sessions include vocabulary building. Beyond my college le... [more]

My name is Joel and I want to thank you for taking the time to explore my tutor profile. I wear many hats including being a physician in training, pianist, day-trader, and professional tutor. To use an appropriate analogy, when you have car trouble, you take your car to a mechanic to fix the problem, NOT the salesman who sold it to you. As a professional tutor, I want to be your trusted mechanic. I am NOT a current/former teacher. Whereas teachers are trained to present "testable" informati... [more]

I am highly skilled in geometry. I've tutor hundreds if not thousands of students. As a student, I was gifted in math. I went through school rarely scoring anything lower than a 95 in math courses. I routinely tested in the 99 percentile on standardized test, and as a 6th grader test showed I was already beyond the 11th grade level. I finished several college math courses with a 105 average. I started tutoring math in January of 2001. I have math tutoring experience from k-12 and college students in courses that include basic math, pre-algebra, algebra, calculus, geometry, ... [more]
