I have taught Geometry both in an adult education program for one year and six years at a local private high school and half a year at a public area high school. For the past few years since I retired, I have privately tutored Geometry for two years. I have a great love for the concepts taught in Geometry. Geometry teaches a student to problem solve and to develop good reasoning skills. The ACT test has about one-fourth of their questions about Geometric concepts so to have a good understand the concepts taught in Geometry is important. Many of the concepts taught in Geometry are seen again [more]

I studied high school math at Phillips Exeter, a top ranked prep school. With my math students, I draw heavily on Exeter's Harkness method, a discussion based style of teaching that allows the student to explore concepts by completing practice problems and explaining their methods and thought processes. By helping students become familiar with the concepts underlying the problems they are solving, I aim to make math more interesting and transparent while improving confidence and grades. Tutoring is about more than just helping students to pass a test. While grades are important, my goal for my [more]

I taught geometry for 10 years. During my 10 years of teaching, I had a success rate of 91% of my students passing the state exam. Hello! My name is Claudia. I am a classroom teacher, and have taught and tutored math in New York and Pennsylvania for 11 years. I teach and tutor Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus. I have taught all types of students in the classroom setting, as well as during tutoring. I love the one-on-one learning experience when working with students in a tutoring environment. It is a different approach from working as a teacher, because you ca [more]

I have helped many students turn their geometry grades around. First students must know how to solve equations since this will be incorporated into many of the problems. When it comes to building proofs I have found that it's important for students to first memorize the theorems. Then we walk through different kinds of proofs. Observing how different kinds of proofs are laid out really helps students grasp the process involved. If needed, I provide students with additional practice on any concepts before quizzes or tests. I am a PhD student studying Nuclear and Particle Physics at Carnegie Mellon University. I am passionate about inspiring students, especially young women, to feel confident in their mathematical and scientific abilities. While most of this confidence is gained through thoroughly learning the course material, I find it is equally important to understand how and when to ask for help with understanding. Trained primarily as a Supplemental Instructor for a college physics class at the University ... [more]

I have tutored high-school Geometry for many years and have learned how to make proofs and other concepts more approachable for students. My students look forward to our sessions together, knowing they will get the help they need. I currently tutor several different courses of high school and college math including Geometry, AP Statistics, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, College Algebra and Pre-Calculus. My students have maintained A or B averages throughout the year. I also tutored Middle Childhood Math and Reading, raising test scores significantly. Some of my other tutoring experiences include wo [more]

I taught the basics of geometry to 8th and 9th grade students during one of my practicum experiences in graduate school. I worked with each grade at different times. This included both group and 1-on-1 tutoring sessions. Recently I was hired by a client to serve as their private teacher. I designed a 4-5 month plan of instruction that was based upon PA state standards aligned curriculum. I taught, assigned homework, and regularly assessed my student to ensure their progress was consistent and adjusted my instruction when necessary. [more]

I went to school to earn my teaching licensure for fourth through ninth grade math and science. I immediately was hired after obtaining my license as a sixth grade math and science teacher. In addition to teaching, I was asked to create lesson web pages for an online setting. It was at this time my talents for the movement of lessons were acknowledge and I was then offered an additional responsibility of becoming a part of a team to learn about Universal Design of Learning (UDL).
