It may seem strange to begin with a statistic, but I trust you will agree it's not wholly inappropriate. During the 2009-2010 school year, my 11 AP Chemistry students had a 100% pass rate with the following score distribution: Seven of them scored a 5, three scored a 4, and one scored a 3. The high scores are greater than three times the national average. What makes this even more impressive is that I only saw my students an average of 2.5 times per week (2 days one week, 3 days the next, alt... [more]

Hi! I'm Vincent, a recent graduate of Harvard University who moved to Los Angeles a few months ago. I've had lots of experience tutoring a wide variety of math subjects. I've done in-home tutoring in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. Not only that, but I've worked professionally as a group tutor for first-year college Physics. Prior to getting my graduate degree at Harvard, I attended Pomona College in Claremont, CA, where I earned a 3.8 GPA. While at Pomona I was able to m... [more]

I have achieved a perfect score on the official GRE, in each the quantitative, verbal, and writing sections. What's more, I have taught numerous classes and individual students in the subject for over 8 years, imparting my methodology, strategy, and substantive knowledge in each of the sub-disciplines. I have helped students improve scores from the lower quartile to the second and third quartiles; likewise, I have helped students from the middle quartiles reach the top quartile, including a handful of students who obtained perfect scores in one of the three subsets! I have been a GRE tutor for three years, and have helped numerous students go to the grad program of their dreams. While my background is in English, I am also a strong mathematician and can provide strong support in all areas of the test. Patient and adaptable, I am used to working with older students who have not been in a math class for a whille, and help such students identify content areas that need extra attention as well as teaching strategies that will help them succeed on test day. I've always loved learning. To me, teaching is an extension of that thirst for education. I started [more]

I took the GRE when I applied to get my masters degree in electrical engineering. I was accepted easily into my top school. The GRE, like all standardized tests, has tricks and shortcuts that will maximize your score. I can show you how to use them to get the score you want. Ah Mathematics. The bane of existence for many a child. The mighty struggle of all struggles. Math can be confusing, confounding, careless, and cruel. It can make you want to grab your hair and tear it out. It can make you want to toss your textbook across the room and swear off math forever. Math can be relentless and unf [more]

I have been teaching students from elementary school through adulthood since I was twelve years old. My mother, a teacher herself, showed me that students learn best when they are active participants in every stage of the learning process. Thus, I focus on understanding each student's educational background and learning style, so as to break each task into pieces that are easy for them to engage. I am energized by the tutoring process, and take great joy in seeing my students succeed. I am... [more]

My greatest experience with the GRE is with teaching the math section. Oftentimes adult students haven't seen a right triangle in ten years, and may need a brush up on basic math skills. I use drills and worksheets to help students regain their prior proficiency in these basic skills, as well as learn a few new ones necessary for this particular test. I also have experience teaching the verbal (as well as writing) section, though now that the test has been revised, there are unfortunately fewer typical multiple choice tricks one can use (namely-- process of elimination). However, I can gui [more]
