As a math tutor, I have a few years of experience successfully helping students who needed a little extra help preparing for the quantitative portion of the GRE. I have helped students brush up on their math skills and learn new skills in order to be successful on the quantitative sections of the GRE. I am not an English tutor and I have never tutored for the verbal sections of the GRE. However, in August 2017 I retook the GRE and scored a 170 on both the quantitative and the verbal portions of the test. My writing score was 4.5. Based on my own experience taking the test, I believe that [more]

I've been helping people with the GRE since I took it as a soon to be grad student in college. The basic premise of it has not changed much over the years even with the new revision but requires a strong foundation in math to do well. With practice, you too can do well on the GRE! As an engineering program manager for 15 years, and with an MIT degree to boot, I know my fair share of math and science, having taken Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology AP II. It all started when my algebra teacher sent me to math camp and entered me into a geometry contest the next year, which I got a perfec [more]

Hi there, My name is Daniel, and I can help you be your best! I have a master's degree in mathematics from Western Washington University, and spent a further year studying applying mathematics at Cambridge University in England. I like math, and I like helping people understand math--and people tell me I'm pretty good at that. I would love to be your tutor, whatever your needs: anything from grade school arithmetic or SAT math to college and graduate classes. Mathematical biology, financia... [more]

I have been a teacher since 1993. During that time I earned three degrees (BS, MA and PhD), a English language teaching certificate and a postgraduate diploma in Film Sound Design. My teaching experience is mainly from English language classes, where my strengths have been grammar, test preparation, reading comprehension and academic writing. In addition to this, I have taught film sound history and analysis at the Masters degree level. As a teacher I prefer not to lecture; I would rather sti... [more]

I have 15 years experience as an instructor of philosophy, during which time I have taught over 100 courses at a variety of colleges and universities, most recently and extensively at Los Angeles Pierce College and East Los Angeles College. A lot of that teaching concerned the traditional topics of philosophy (about which I am always happy to talk!), but through Pierce College?s Honors Program, I had the unique opportunity to design and teach a ?Critical Thinking and Composition? course eac... I have been working for the past 20 years with students who have found classroom work difficult. Through thousands of hours of working with both the parents and the students I have found too often the roadblocks to learning are the mismatches between the student's learning style and the teacher's teaching style. One on one tutoring with an experienced tutor can avoid these roadblocks. I look behind the homework for skills that have been misapplied or never learned and work with the student to... [more]

Taken and passed the GRE with high difficulty in math. During my undergraduate, I received a BA in Pure Mathematics. I have two years of experience tutoring math at DePaul University within the Mathematics Department where I would tutor current students enrolled in a math class. Along with being a math tutor, I also have a Bachelors in Pure Mathematics from DePaul University where I studied both applied and theoretical math. I have experience tutoring the following math subjects: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, Multi-variable Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, GRE m [more]

Note: The reason that I don't have many hours with Wyzant is that I am just returning from six years of teaching SAT overseas, and I did not use this website during that time. For seven years, I have helped students achieve dramatic results on standardized tests. My journey began when I studied for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Developing my own strategies to augment the traditional approaches to test prep, I earned a score in the 98th percentile for the GRE Verbal. The experience of devel... [more]

I specialize in standardized tests, especially SAT, ACT and LSAT. Although I generally consider myself a mathematician, having studied and taught philosophy at UW for seven years, I also have developed effective communication and pedagogical skills that make me unusually qualified to provide thorough and well-rounded approaches to each of these tests. My background is particularly well-suited to the LSAT, insofar as the field of philosophy is laden with both formal and informal logic, stric... [more]
