Hi future students and parents!!! My name is Aki, and I was a Physics/Calculus teacher at a small private school located in San Diego. Now, I've relocated to Portland and am a full time tutor, dedicating all my attention to the success of each and every student I have. I've started tutoring in 2012 at a prestigious tutoring facility. There I had the opportunity to teach a group of high school students SAT and ACT while creating materials for the AP tests. This experience made me realize how... [more]

I have tutored several students in the GRE and specialize in assisting students in the quantitative section. My background in academic math and test prep strategies for the SAT and ACT tests prepare me to tutor students in the GRE. I enjoy working with students who are heading off to graduate school! My tutoring experience spans 9 years, nearly 1000 hours with Wyzant students, and almost 4 times as many tutoring hours with students at The Portland Tutoring Collective. I have coached students to perfect 800s on all sections of the SAT, and high 30s on the ACT. I specialize in the following su [more]

Teaching has always been my passion. While still in college I began tutoring high school students in academic subjects. After graduation I was hired by a major test prep company and became their top grad test tutor and trainer. I transferred to their Shanghai branch where I developed and ran their graduate program. In 2007 I started my own test prep company in Shanghai, which became the largest English language test prep and learning center in the city. I recently have moved back to the U... [more]

I'm guessing that the part of the GRE that is most difficult, maybe even frightening, for you is the math part. I will help you understand the reasoning behind the math rules. When you understand the reason for the rules, the rules become easier to use. Why is 6 to the zero power 1 and not zero? Because it's a rule? Or because it makes mathematical sense? Why can't I divide by zero? Because it's a rule? Or because it makes mathematical sense? When you know the mathematical sense of these, you will be more comfortable with the rules. [more]

I spent 8 years teaching in the public school. I also run a large industrial arts center, and can relate mathematics to a host of content domains. I have recently completed a Master's in Systems Science from PSU. I'm especially interested in working with students who would like their mathematics grounded in the real world, are interested in crafts or working with tools, or who find math classes too slow. I have taught at all levels of mathematics, from middle school up through advance... [more]

I work along side a tutor who has scored in the 99th percentile on the MCAT. I have previously taught community college courses on anatomy, psychology and sociology. I also have extensive training the most current memorization and learning techniques. My role in MCAT training is to ensure that students are converting what they hear in their lessons into a permanent knowledge base and skill set I've taught anatomy and physiology at the college level. Currently, tutoring for the MCAT is my f... [more]

I performed above 90th percentile on the GRE Math and Verbal tests 12 years ago (exact scores by request), and I went on to earn a Master's in cognitive science at the University of California. Since then I have been tutoring the SAT and GRE and have been proud to see my students achieve their goals. I take a practical, no-gimmicks approach. I advocate taking several practice tests and studying mainly in the subject areas most likely to see results. Hi, I am a longtime university teacher and expert in math and the social sciences. I earned Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Cognitive Science a [more]
