I have tutored more than 20 ISEE and SSAT students over the past 15 years. My experience is at all three levels of the test. After first assessing strengths and weaknesses, I help students develop a comprehensive study plan, with daily practice to supplement our tutoring sessions. We will work hard, and develop skills that will also help with the SAT and ACT later on. As an independent school educator, and parent, I have a unique view of the test, and its use in the admissions process. I am a school librarian with more than 25 years of teaching and tutoring experience! I have taught all ages [more]

I have taught 10 students ISEE in the past year, including two children whom I found through WyzAnt and whom I have been tutoring since May 2013. One parent has given me top ratings throughout the time I have taught her daughters. I am intimately familiar with the test and understand what it takes to succeed on it, including using process of elimination, strategies for vocabulary, math for all levels, strategies for identifying reading comprehension main points and evaluating answer choices. I am also qualified to teach the SSAT, which is a fairly similar test to ISEE. I currently teach SSAT t [more]

The ISEE offers many students an opportunity to write their own future by getting into their school of choice. The Independent School Entrance Examination is offered by ERB, the Educational Records Bureau. The ISEE exam covers Verbal (vocabulary), Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Reasoning (ability to think with and use Math in unique situations) and finally it covers basic Mathematics techniques. The test has different levels for different grades: Lower, Middle and Upper. After tutoring many students in the ISEE I have found that the best preparation starts with a solid education in Basics [more]

Over the years, I have successfully prepared for the Math portions of the ISEE (and the SSAT) a number of students applying to (and getting into) highly selective private schools (at any grade level). My system of preparation for these standardized tests in mathematics is somewhat unique and unconventional. In fact, it goes against the grain of *most* of what you have been taught in school... and likely even in a test-prep class, if you have taken one. Sound a bit unnerving? Perhaps. But consider this: those same math teachers who tell you what to do, had most likely not scored well th [more]
