The math portion of the ISEE tests students' knowledge of general mathematical concepts and basic problem-solving skills related to algebra and geometry. I have the most current practice tests and years of experience tutoring all levels of math. I am also very familiar with its content and structure which consists of two different sections: quantitative reasoning and mathematics achievement. I'd love to go through practice tests and share test-taking strategies with students to help them achieve high scores. [more]

I prepare my students for ISEE by working problems from ISEE prep books together with them, focusing on those subjects with which the student has the greatest difficulty. For example, one of my current lower level ISEE students needs much remedial work in arithmetic, but is already very good at reading comprehension. For both vocabulary and for mathematics preparation, I find that flash cards are a very useful tool for my students. I have over 30 years of experience as a tutor and lecturer in mathematics and physics, both before and after I completed my physics & biology BA at UC Berkeley and [more]

I have been coordinating and delivering a private ISEE class in concert with a private tutoring company for the last two years. My focus has been on the middle level ISEE exam, especially for the Math Achievement and Quantitative Reasoning subjects. I help kids with all aspects of the exam, but mathematics is my special area of expertise. I love math. I truly do. Since as long as I can remember, I've always found it fascinating, interesting, and highly rewarding. But what I love even more than ripping through a problem set is sharing my passion for math with ambitious students. I've be [more]

I have a Lifetime, single subject, teaching credential good for Math, Life Science, and English. I have tutored ISEE previously. I think a tutor can transfer more math knowledge than vocabulary/English during a given amount of tutoring time, but will be happy to provide English help also. I have tutored hundreds of students for thousands of hours. The subjects I have been most involved with over the last 10 years have been Algebra II (including trigonometry), Geometry, Chemistry, Algebra 1 and Precalculus. I can also make a significant difference in a student's readiness for the math por [more]

I have worked with many students over the years, preparing them for the lower and middle level ISEE exams in all subjects, and with upper level students on all sections but math. Many students struggle with writing essays under the pressure of a time limit, and I help each student find his or her best strategy for formulating a well-developed essay. I show students how to get adept at finding the salient points in each reading comprehension passage, also allowing for those who are more at ease reading for content thoroughly first, versus those who may do better by skimming quickly, reading [more]

I have taught at three independent schools over two decades and am well aware of what the ISEE exam covers. I taught 6-8th most often, and worked with younger students as well in two schools that were K-8. I take pride in building a child's confidence by showing that each math and reading problem can be solved with a combination of intuitive observation and deliberate problem-solving. Hi, I truly love working with middle and high school kids. I?m a high-energy tutor who combines great humor with intense focus. I do a lot of test prep tutoring and can teach to the test, and yet I consider every [more]

I have experience with the ISEE. I know what independent schools are looking for, and am ready to help my students rise to the occasion. Independent schools look for students who can think critically, and who trust their own brains. They're looking for fluency in vocabulary, mathematics, and reading skills. To measure these skills, the ISEE contains four sections: a 20-minute Verbal Reasoning section, a 35-minute Quantitative Reasoning section, a 25-minute Reading Comprehension section, and a 30-minute Mathematics Achievement section. Some basic techniques include: know your roots and pre [more]

During my two years as a tutor at a C2 Education center from 2014 to summer 2016, I worked long-term with more than 15 ISEE students. I have taught the lower, middle, and upper levels of this test and have equal experience with all sections of the exam. My ISEE students have scored well enough to be admitted to competitive Southern California private schools such as Marlborough, Brentwood, and Harvard-Westlake. My two-plus years of experience as an SAT and ACT tutor give me further foundation in the skills and content tested on this exam and the logic of standardized tests. [more]

For tutoring most students for this exam - also called the SSAT - it's best to go through a good workbook. But I also check to see if the student has any gaps in his basic knowledge, such as grammar forms, some Prefixes & Word Roots, etc. As there is now an essay on the exam, students can plan, write, & revise practice papers for me. This seems effective; and of course, whatever students review with me for their exam is quite useful when they start in high school. Experience with tutoring international students. SUBJECTS Writing, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Literature from basic level, to [more]

As a part of the requirements for entrance to many independent schools, the ISEE tests Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics Achievement and also grades a half-hour essay. The skills needed to do well on this exam are the very skills I have been honing for many years, both in graduate school and empirically with private students. I love to teach students of all ages. I have extensive experience (35+ years) as a professional pianist and piano teacher, and a music degree from UCLA in Music Composition (minor in Piano Performance). I also have a Master's d [more]
