I have provided expert level individualized math tutoring for over 25 years. I have worked with students who have weak math skills and are currently struggling to keep up, students who are doing well and want to do advanced work, as well as students who fall somewhere in between. I have tutored in all junior high and high school math subject areas. I am comfortable with and have ample experience tutoring students of all ages. I help students to thoroughly understand math so they can do A+ wor... [more]

Many colleges and high schools teach Java as the first language. I think it's a good choice: Java requires syntactic precision so it forces good habits, and unlike scripting languages like Python, Java exposes CS fundamentals like data types, classes, and standard collections. I see many students stumble on Java's daunting scaffolding. Everything is a class/object before a student knows what a class/object is. There are a slew of keywords that aren't explained upfront. Just to print the word "hello" you must type something like "public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) [more]

I earned a Computer Science minor at Cal Poly. And I have 1+ years experience with Java programming. I have been tutoring math for over five years, most recently as a tutor for Cal Poly's math department. My favorite part of any tutoring session is the buildup to the "Aha!" moment. I believe that building up to that moment is the most important, as it represents the learning process. If a student excels in that buildup process, that student excels in learning anything. About me: In 1st grade, I found a curiosity for math and took it all the way to my graduation from Cal Poly, where I studie.. [more]

I am a Sun Certified Java Programmer. I cleared the exam in 2008. Since then I have implemented a few web projects and tutored Java to many. Java is as powerful as C++ but easier to learn. It has a very wide area of application. For those who want to get into programming at a later stage in life Java is the best language to learn. I am Sushanta. I am a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. IIT Kanpur is among the very best tech schools of India with an acceptance rate less than that of Harvard or Stanford. If you are a high school student or a college student I can h [more]

I taught undergraduate math and statistics courses at UC Berkeley for about six years while I was a doctoral student. During that time I had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of students at very different levels. I'm just as happy helping out students who just need to pass as I am working with students who are striving for that A+. I'm passionate about math and about teaching. My favorite part of graduate school was getting the chance to work with students one-on-one. Working ... [more]

I have worked as a Student Assistant from 2004 through 2011 at Butte Community College. Working with such a diverse culture of students has helped me to understand the complexity of each individual, and their level of understanding. Three of those years as a Student Assistant, I have worked as a programming tutor for the C++ and Web Development courses, and have thoroughly enjoyed working with each student to understand concept and designs. I have also worked as an Automation Engineer for... [more]

I have a over 15 years of experience working with Java professionally and otherwise. I have also taught Java/Android as an Instructor at General Assembly and mentored junior developers at the workplace over the course of my career. I started tutoring after leaving college to pursue a career as a professional software engineer. At that time I mostly tutored high school math, ACT prep, and the usage of the computer algebra program, Mathematica. After some time, I found myself mentoring a FIRST Robotics team attached to a youth program at the St. Louis Science Center. There I mentored students in [more]

I tutor mainly on algebras, pre-calculus, calculus AB and BC. It is an easy job to give the correct answers directly to students. I prefer something better than that. I guide them to find the correct answers by themselves. So when they are in the test or exam, they can solve any problems. I explain to them the concepts and knowledge requirements behind each of the exercises. What they are all about. How we should tackle the problems. How we are going to break down the big problem into some p... [more]

** June 2017 Update: Please note that I presently work largely with students seeking extracurricular or advanced instruction in programming, robotics, and mathematics. I work with other students on a case-by-case basis. ** It's much harder to learn something when you don't care about the topic. That's why I've always approached learning as two step process. The first step is getting to the "hmm!" moment -- that moment when you realize that the particular topic you're studying really does m... [more]
