Latin is a complex but rewarding language to learn. Like computer programming, it requires every word to be correctly in place for sentences to work, to make sense. My global linguistics approach teaches students how the language "works" before getting into the details. With the 2010-2011 school year, Mr. P celebrated his twentieth year as a teacher with the Alameda Unified School District and twenty-two years in the profession, having taught in both high school and middle school. A former Teacher of the Year, now retired from the Alameda Unified School District, he is so glad to be able to [more]
David F. enjoys tutoring Latin (and Greek and Hebrew!), especially beginning students. He has worked with novices in Latin for the last 10 years, often at their request continuing with them for a year or longer, as their understanding of and appreciation for the historic Latin language increase. The fine points of grammatical structure, when understood, can remove obstacles to enjoyable reading of the classics! I love to teach students of all ages. I have extensive experience (35+ years) as a professional pianist and piano teacher, and a music degree from UCLA in Music Composition (minor in [more]

During 2012, I taught first-year Latin at the University of the Pacific. I am prepared to tutor Latin up to an advanced reading level. [more]
Over half of all words in English derive from Latin, one of the most logical and widely-spoken languages ever created. Study of Latin will help English-speaking students understand their own language much better and provide them with a window into French, Spanish, Italian, and other languages. I enjoy teaching students this Mother Language by using the Seventh Edition of 'Wheelock's Latin' and its accompanying workbook. I greatly enjoy working with students, having tutored, taught, and coached students for the past thirty years. My degrees are from Harvard College (B.A.) and the University [more]
