Retired Classics Professor (Latin, Ancient Greek)

I am eager to tutor both beginners and advanced Latin students. For many years, I was a professor of Classics (Latin, Ancient Greek, ancient history), first at the City University of New York, then the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since my retirement I have successfully tutored students aged 6 to 71 in Latin and ancient Greek. (My Classics publications include 17 articles, 2 encyclopedia entries, and a book on Vergil?s Aeneid.)... [more]

Experienced Secondary teacher specializing in Science and Latin

I graduated from Hunter College in 2008 with a degree in Latin. I then attended Brooklyn Law School, graduating with my JD in 2012. After a couple unsatisfying years in the law, I returned to my passion, Biology. I was a High School Science teacher for three years in Broward, teaching Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This year, I have merged by love of teaching with my very expensive law degree, and I am currently the instructor for a Prelaw Academy at a Middle School. I am very excited to... [more]

Enthusiastic City Year Math, Reading, and Test Prep Tutor

My love of teaching stems from a very young age. I am the oldest of all my first cousins and as such, I've served as a teacher and tutor for each and every single one of them. My skills have been honed this year, as I am currently serving my corps year at City Year Miami, an AmeriCorps program focused on closing the education gap in under-resourced schools through direct intervention and mentorship. My favorite part of everyday is working closely with my students and helping them gain the con... [more]

Theology Geek: Greek, Latin, Writing, Grammar, ACT/SAT/GRE, Geometry

Salve! I have been through two Latin grammars, Wheelock's Latin and Moreland & Fleischer's Intensive Course. I regularly read articles in St. Thomas's Summa in Latin and have frequented Latin Masses in both the Tridentine and Novus Ordo forms. I myself had received personal tutoring in Latin and am now glad to assist others in understanding this sublime language as well. Price varies depending upon driving distance and subject; inquire for details. 5 years teaching experience (middle & high school), 3 years as an adjunct professor (undergraduates, graduates, and distance), one year as a teach [more]

Insight, Understanding, and Improvement

I took four years of Latin from the Jesuits and enjoyed it. We studied Caesar, Cicero, and Virgil. My fourth-year teacher of Virgil was the Principal of Regis High School in NYC. I think it would be helpful for almost everyone to know a little Latin. I initially joked that my Latin would help me in a job dealing with Latin America, and it actually did help me. If I didn?t know how to say something in Spanish or Portuguese, I would say it in Latin and the people could understand me. I learned additional Spanish and Portuguese words and phrases this way.
