History and Latin Tutoring

I took four years of Latin in High School and won a National Latin Exam award as a senior. I went on to study Latin at the University of Notre Dame and received my Bachelor degree in Latin and History. Latin was also an important part of my studies for a Master's degree in Ancient History from Ohio State University. I recently helped a high school teacher pass the teacher certification exam in Latin. I love the language and love to teach it! I have a Master of Arts in History from Ohio State University. I also received an undergraduate degree in Latin and History from Notre Dame. I love [more]

Insight, Understanding, and Improvement

I took four years of Latin from the Jesuits and enjoyed it. We studied Caesar, Cicero, and Virgil. My fourth-year teacher of Virgil was the Principal of Regis High School in NYC. I think it would be helpful for almost everyone to know a little Latin. I initially joked that my Latin would help me in a job dealing with Latin America, and it actually did help me. If I didn?t know how to say something in Spanish or Portuguese, I would say it in Latin and the people could understand me. I learned additional Spanish and Portuguese words and phrases this way. An A+ Educator you can rely on for results

Latin, like any other language, is most easily mastered when the student has anchors in their memory as to the proper usage of words. These anchors are easily provided by the Latin liturgy used by many traditional churches. I have found my own choir experience singing Latin in an Episcopal Church to be a great asset when tackling the proper usage of Latin words. Therefore, if the student is at all musical, I encourage singing Latin songs together, both religious and secular, like "Gaudeamus Igitur," for example. Regardless, I try to use Latin in conversation whenever possible while teachi [more]
