Hello, I would like to be qualified in Linear Algebra. I just took the course Fall 2013 at Northern Virginia Community College and I will also add that it was online. I tried my best to answer my fellow classmates' questions in almost every post of the discussion board. I made an "A" in the class. I understand when a matrix is inconsistent and consistent or linearly independent and dependent. I know how to do the linear transformation. I know how to find the inverse of a matrix. I understand the properties of matrices and that a matrix is not commutative by multiplication. I can find th [more]

I am a PhD student studying Nuclear and Particle Physics at Carnegie Mellon University. I am passionate about inspiring students, especially young women, to feel confident in their mathematical and scientific abilities. While most of this confidence is gained through thoroughly learning the course material, I find it is equally important to understand how and when to ask for help with understanding. Trained primarily as a Supplemental Instructor for a college physics class at the University ... [more]

I am highly qualified to tutor students in linear algebra for the following reasons: (1) I have a Ph.D. in mathematics (Clemson University, 1999). (2) My area of mathematical research falls within the ambit of algebra and discrete mathematics, thus I understand, and am able to explain, concepts pertaining to linear algebra at an expert level. (3) I have twenty years of experience in teaching and tutoring mathematics at the college and high school levels. In particular, I have experience in both teaching and tutoring linear algebra. Linear algebra is the study of systems of equations described using matrix and vector notation. It can seem like a chore before you realize the practical applications of it, but it is a chore worth doing well, as it has myriad applications throughout engineering theory. The knowledge of linear algebra simplify the task of solving simultaneous equations. This is ginormous! Why? Because simultaneous equations arise that need to be solved to do structural design in civil engineering, circuit design in electrical, lens design in optics, control systems design. Aspects of it are used in physics [more]

I had a linear algebra course in undergrad and a computer methods course in which we developed linear algebra programs and learned linear algebra algorithms. I also had a finite element method course which relied heavily on linear algebra. I am a Civil Engineering graduate student and research assistant at Carnegie Mellon University. I have years of experience, both as a tutor and as a teaching assistant, helping undergraduates with their homework and understanding their lectures. I've also guest lectured for professors. All of these experiences have helped me understand that I have a passion [more]

As a former high school algebra teacher, I have a varied knowledge of this subject. With my undergraduate degree in meteorology, a wide range of math classes was required, from Algebra to calculus to statistics and probability. I also tutored students in passing the MCAS (a standardized test in Massachusetts) which was somewhat based on linear algebra. GRE prep for Penn State students, SAT pre for State College High School students. I have a strength in science and math having attended the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. [more]

My dissertation heavily leveraged linear algebra and numerical linear algebra. Also, my work at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory made extensive work of my numerical linear algebra background. As an adjunct faculty member at Community College of Allegheny County, I taught linear algebra. Since this is one of my areas of expertise, I feel qualified tutoring linear algebra. I have a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering from The University of Akron as well as a Master's degree from Bowling Green State University in Applied Mathematics and Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and [more]

Linear Algebra in an area of mathematics that studies matrices, how they are used, and what can be done with them to solve a problem. They are mostly used for solving a system of equations in order to determine the answers. I have studied many areas of LA, not only the theoretical part but also the application's part. My major application area has been in engineering and related math and science areas. I am able to help a student understand so that he can do the work without any assistance. [more]

I have tutored college algebra for three years. I have even been given the opportunity to cover evening algebra classes when an instructor could not make it to class for a review night. I love y=mx+b because it is a beautiful equation and the slope intercept formula is not so bad once you know what vale is which variable letter. Slopes are not so bad once you play with them and get the idea. It is really just getting the core idea down and then applying it to the work you already know how to do. [more]

While completing my undergraduate coursework I earned an A in Linear Algebra. I am very familiar with the concepts and skills necessary to successfully complete a course in Linear Algebra. In addition, I have experience with the math theory behind key ideas such as linear systems, matrices, determinants and vectors. I have extensive experience teaching math students of all ages. During 20 years of teaching, I have instructed 6th grade mathematics, 7th grade mathematics, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Precalculus (Trigonometry), Calculus, and undergraduate Statistics. In addition, I have he [more]
