High School Math, Physics, Computer Science & SAT/GRE/AP/PRAXIS Prep

I have used Linux as my primary operating system since 2001, and have since earned certification through the Linux Professional Institute. I tutor Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science. My students range from the Elementary to College. Since 2007, tutoring has been a passion for me. My interest in learning is infectious, and my tutoring style is both friendly and engaging. I joined WyzAnt.com in the Spring of 2011, and since then have tutored nearly full time. My students range in age from 8 to 38. In each case, they sought to fill gaps that their classes left behind. I have been using linux (and Cygwin) for about six years. While I have not mastered every nuance of Linux, I am quite proficient at command line utilities, piping results into other utilities, re-directing output, etc. I also routinely write bash scripts to automate various maintenance tasks on my machines at work and to launch other programs when specific environment variables need to be set prior to their launch (as is typical with distributed batch jobs on massively parallel/grid computers). Again, I am not anywhere close to a Linux administrator, but I know Linux better than probably 70 [more]

Recent VT Computer Science Graduate and Social Skills Coach

I understand all basic terminal commands and how to write shell scripts and commands such as: ls, cd, mv, cp, grep, find, history, sh and others. When I started coding in college, I had a very difficult time. Many students who had started in high school were way ahead of the learning curve. To compensate, I had to dig down and teach myself. I broke things down everything to its most simple form and built it up. I made simple programs and by the end of my first semester I was able to complete massive programs all my myself. In my second semester of college, I realized that the best way [more]
