I studied theoretical mathematics and philosophy at MIT and Harvard, where I specialized in the philosophy of logic, math, science, and language. I've taught logic for more than ten years, including basic courses in critical thinking, standard courses on propositional and predicate logic, and advanced courses on metalogic (including Godel's theorems) and the history and philosophy of logic. I specialize in rigorous, high-level academic tutoring, test preparation, and enrichment for high school, college, and graduate students. I have ten years and thousands of hours of experience with students [more]

For Basic Logic, I can help you with: Set Theory, Relations, Quantifiers, Algorithms, Counting Methods, De Morgan?s Law, Logical Connectives, Truth Tables, and Relationships Between Statements. For Mathematical Logic, I can help you with the following: Terms and Formulas in First-Order Languages, Induction in their Calculus, Structures, and Interpretations, Satisfaction and Consequence Relations, Formalizations, and Sequent Calculus. "Do not worry about your difficulties in Mathematics. I can assure you mine are still greater." - Albert Einstein Looking for a mat [more]

I took mathematical logic during my undergraduate education. The topics included boolean algebra, theorem proving via rules of inference, and later, equation logic. Part of the curriculum revolved around proving certain major results, including the completeness theorem for boolean algebra, and the compactness theorem. I helped a number of students with solving logic problems. I emphasize the fact that practicing logic strengthens one's ability to think in many different school disciplines. I also mention that solving many puzzles, which many of us like doing in our spare time, requires logical [more]

As a student of philosophy, first as an undergraduate major in philosophy at Reed College, and now as a PhD student in philosophy at Harvard University, I have been required to take courses in logic. I have taught and graded logic as well. At Reed, I took one course in first-order logic, including soundness and completeness, as well as a course in modal logic. I received As in both courses. In my last year at Reed, I worked as a tutor and grader for the aforementioned course in first-order logic. While at Harvard, I took another course in first-order logic, and again received an A. I was enrolled for two years in a math graduate program in logic. As an undergraduate I majored in philosophy, with an emphasis on logic. I scored perfect on the GRE quantitative reasoning test. I am driven by the challenge of helping every student to succeed. Most recently I have done this at the secondary level as a public charter school teacher. Prior to that, alongside my own doctoral work in mathematics, I taught and assistant-taught college-level math classes, from remedial Calculus to Multivariate Calculus. Helping students discover math themselves is the subject of the PROMYS program [more]

I placed into advanced geometry w/ logic and passed with an A as a high school student in Barrington High School (BHS). As an undergraduate at Lyndon State College (LSC), I earned highest marks in every course of pure mathematics such as sets logic & proof, abstract algebra, geometry w/ complex numbers and real analysis. These courses demanded the composition of rigorous arguments and required an in-depth understanding of symbolic logic. Knowledge of truth values, truth tables, negations, conjunctions, disjunctions, DeMorgan's Laws, implications, biconditionals, contrapositives, converses, tau [more]

I was an Applied Math major and was required to take Logic as a precursor to Discrete Math. I received a 100% in this course, have used the material in Discrete Math and Abstract Algebra, and have provided corrections to the answers of our classroom text to the instructor. I use this material when tutoring Discrete Math and Abstract Algebra. I have a degree in Applied Mathematics from Southern New Hampshire University. I have been a tutor for 20 years, specializing in standardized tests, high school and college math, high school science, college physics, and tutoring many other subjects includ [more]

All of proof-based mathematics lies atop of first order logic, that is, propositional logic with predicates, and quantifiers. This language has become natural to me in the course of earning two B.S. degrees in Math and Physics. I successfully completed the most difficult logic and discrete math class available at my university, and now tutor other pure math majors taking the same course. Logic courses are often taught in the context of discrete structures, the theory of computation, or algebra and number theory. My experience in these tangential subjects helps students to succeed in their part [more]

As a Java programmer at the Graduate level, logical fallacies are my pet peeve. I have studied symbolic logic since an undergrad, which has given me the ability to express phrases as variables and operators. I additionally have a pragmatic, objective view of life which is another take on the word "logic". My name is Craig and I am a Neuroscientist at the Boston University School of Medicine. I am currently researching new ways to treat Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases. I'd like to help kids get interested and excited about school by showing them it can lead to interesting and "cool" places [more]

From 1996-1999, I student Symbolic Logic and Many Valued Logic at Westfield State College. I also served as a volunteer teaching assistant. I have been a third grade general education teacher and a special education teacher for grades one through five, with experience writing Individual Education Plans (IEP's) and analyzing psycho-educational testing to determine special education eligibility. As a professional elementary school teacher and substitute teacher, I have over ten years of professional experience with students from diverse populations of all cultures and economic levels. I have a [more]
