Composer and College Music Professor (St. Xavier University)

I'm a composer that has worked a great deal with electronic music and audio production. I have experience with commercial software, but also with more complex programming languages. My acoustic music has performed by the New York Philharmonic, eighth blackbird, Spektral Quartet, Minnesota Orchestra, Pacifica Quartet and many other organizations. I have a PhD from the University of Chicago, an MA from the Eastman School of Music, and a BA from Yale University. I have a passion for guiding others through musical subjects that I've loved since I was 9 years old. I've taught music history, music t [more]

Guitar, Songwriting, Jazz. Beginner - Advanced

My degree in jazz guitar included basic skills of producing, recording, and DAW use. While interning in a studio for a year, I further developed my skills while using DAWs to record live music, and produce music internally from MIDI samples. Having an especially strong background in composition, arranging, and music theory also helps to make musically decisions in the producing process. I am primarily a guitarist, but I also play bass, drums, ukulele, piano, violin, and sing. I am originally from Indianapolis, where I learned violin from the Suzuki method. Because of this, me teaching appr [more]

Everybody is a musician, my job is to cultivate that

During my study of composition at DePaul, I was simultaneously pursuing a degree in Sound Recording Technology, which I will complete as of this coming year. I also have studied the physics of sound and intend to earn a physics minor. Currently, I am employed as an intern at Stonecutter Records where we record musicians everyday. I have taught guitar and piano for several years to kids and peers alike. I'm enthusiastic about learning new instruments having picked up the saxophone, clarinet, and violin since being in school. I aim to inspire composers with music from the past and ideas of th [more]

Striving for a deeper understanding

I've been recording music for about 5 years now. I have a deep understanding of how compression, eq, panning, and mixing using subtraction work and have recorded my band as well as multiple others. I feel i can teach the basics and intermediate levels of recording and mixing music. As an artist I've always been fascinated with trying to grasp a deeper understanding of things by finding analogues to problems and gaining insight through that. The reason is i have something called Synesthesia, or a mixing of the senses. For me it just means i can see music inside my mind very vividly. This has he [more]

Music, Computer, Technology Teacher

My first experience with producing music came when I bought a $99 Yamaha Keyboard and a drum machine. Using 3 cassette tape recorders, I would record one part into a cassette tape recorder and play it back while recording a second part. From there, I bought a 4-channel cassette tape recorder. I was getting better at it, but it was still pretty primitive. Eventually, I moved up to an Ensoniq ESQ-1 8 channel Synth/Sequencer, which eventually included a Roland D110 and a U220. I still had to record those two tracks onto an 8-Track Reel-to-Reel, so I could add vocals. Now, I record everyth [more]

Master the guitar - Improve your songwriting

Before I studied recording engineering at the Peabody Conservatory (Bachelor's, 2007), I was recording band demos using cassette recorders and budding digital technologies. While studying at the conservatory, I recorded a wide variety of instruments and ensembles and very much enjoyed working with artists in the studio and live. Since graduating, I've recorded and mixed a number of projects which are made commercially available. When I teach music production, I make sure that audio fundamentals are taught, the student thoroughly learns principles of DAWs, and we learn every facet of the music [more]
