Experienced, Patient, all ages Teacher: content areas, Spanish, ESL

As a teacher of English as a second or new language, I have studied phonics as a graduate student. I understand the relationship between the awareness of letter sounds and word formation for beginning readers. I am familiar with the importance of phonemic awareness in young learners who are making sense of the English language writing and reading system. I can support early literacy through practice and helping students make the connections between letters and their sounds and how to make words and read words following phonics patterns. [more]

Experienced Reading Specialist with M.A. in Educ./Reading Disabilities

I hold an M.A. in Education with a major in Reading Disabilities. I learned about dyslexia in the '70s, long before schools were aware of how the brain's "wiring" affected a student's ability to read. I have experience in specific programs, such as Distar, Orton Gillingham, Project Read, Wilson Reading, etc. that have been developed and used specifically to help dyslexic students. These programs include instructing students in structured, sequential phonics, using multi- techniques. I also emphasize improving reading fluency so that comprehension is improved as well. I have worked in sever [more]

Evidence-based learning with multi-sensory approach.

Trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach enables me to provide the tools necessary to teach phonics, reading, writing and spelling to children and adults with dyslexia. The Orton-Gillingham Approach, an intensive, sequential phonics-based system teaches the basics of word formation before whole meanings. The method accommodates and utilizes the three learning modalities, or pathways, through which people learn?visual, auditory and kinesthetic. I received my education from The George Washington University in 2007 in Speech and Hearing Science and Psychology. I received training at the Rusk Medi [more]

Early Childhood of Education Major from Georgia State :)

I was trained in Phonics when I taught at an elementary school. I learned different techniques and phrases for learning the material. I also learned gestures that I taught the students. When teaching I keep a running record or what I need to work on during each session. Students progressed over the time frame I was there. I am looking forward to many opportunities this year. I would like to become a tutor to a very brilliant child. All children are master minds and hold a skill that can conquer the world. I am currently a senior? at Georgia State University. My major is Early Childhood of Educ [more]

Reading specialist; focus on working with students G1-G3

Teaching phonics is something I love doing. The method I prefer is that of focusing on vowels and vowel patterns in words so that the student can not only know the sounds but know when to use the sounds. For example, when you come across a word you do not know how to decode, look for the vowel pattern -- if a vowel is followed by a consonant it is likely to be short, if not it is likely to be long. When looking at a longer word, if you come across a vccv pattern, the syllable line generally will be between the two consonants, etc. [more]
