Reading Tutor Using Research Based Methods

I am certified in the Lindamood Bell reading program Seeing Stars for reading comprehension and Visualizing and Verbalizing for reading comprehension. I started an after-school and summer tutoring program in my last school district to help struggling readers. I was able to start this program through a grant and help students to retain the growth they had made during the school year as well as make additional gains. I love singing, dancing, and playing games. I love when learning is fun and when students get to be creative. My life was changed after training in a research based reading pr [more]

Phonics - I have spent the last year as a volunteer Phonics/Reading tutor using the Wilson Method at the Drake Adult Literacy Center in Des Moines. I continue to teach adults one-on-one twice/week as well as help train new volunteers in the Wilson method, which uses a magnetic board, word cards, writing, speaking, and listening activities. I also teach Phonics in the ESL (English as a Second Language) beginners class at DMACC in Des Moines. The first semester has just finished, and I will be continuing to teach the summer and fall sessions. I love teaching how to learn to read through phoneti [more]

Let's Learn Using Your Best Learning Styles!

I minored in English in college, as well as taking graduate courses in linguistics - which included phonics. As an elementary student, I studied phonics myself, and know how valuable the learning of sounds is to students struggling to learn to read. Hajime-mashite! Nice to meet you! My name is Anne and I have my IA K-12 music license, as well as my IN Professional Educator license. I've just added an ESL endorsement to my standard IA teaching license. Although music is my area of endorsement, I have been doing substitute teaching in many areas -- in particular, for middle school math teach [more]

Skillful and experienced elementary/highschool tutor

I have a good understanding of phonics. I've used phonetic-based methods for teaching reading. I've observed that phonetic knowledge enables reading success! I'm also able to teach students who read whole words instead of using phonics. I have lots of experience from teaching in public school, homeschooling and tutoring. While I've liked it all, I especially enjoy concentrating with one student at a time and addressing their particular needs. And it works! I'll work patiently and kindly but progress steadily toward our goal(s). I'm conscientious: I think about your student between [more]
