Is the check engine light on in your child's education?

Over the years, I have helped many students grow in their phonetic abilities. I have worked with K-2, in the public schools, for several years. If a student is not understanding the phonics, I will search for another way to help him or her. Usually, I address all the vowel sounds first and then I move on to consonant blends. I like the student to see how the words blend together. I, always, give them little sayings that will help them pronounce the word. For example, when two vowels go a walking the first one does the talking. In the word "road", we only hear the letter "O" sound. Usual [more]

"An effective & enjoyable phonics, reading, and math tutor"

I have 90 hours of Language Therapy training, and phonics was a big part of what I learned. I believe in a multisensory approach to learning phonics, which I've taught for many years. Phonics is essential to reading success. I have been an elementary teacher at Hill School of FW (for learning differences) for 16 years, building students' self confidence, teaching them to learn to read fluently and improve comprehension. I believe phonics is a crucial skill in learning to read. I worked at the Texas Boys Choir for four years prior, teaching Language Arts and math. I have 90 hours of L [more]

Dyslexia/Reading Tutoring

I have completed a 2 year program through LEAD in Dallas, Texas to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT). This training is a systematic, structured, multisensory approach to teaching students how to decode words (phonics). 85% of the English language is reliable and follows rules. By teaching this program students learn the rules: sounds of single letters, digraphs, combinations, syllable types, etc. Learning to read was very difficult for me and I can identify with students who struggle with it. That is one reason I wanted to become a teacher, to help students learn to read [more]

Certified Teacher - English Language Arts and Literature

Phonics are the building blocks of reading, and often times children that struggle in this area just need a little one on one time with a teacher or tutor to be successful. From my experience with elementary students, I have found that breaking down and studying phonics, even in a few short sessions, greatly improves a child's overall reading abilities. Sometimes reading and reviewing phonics can be daunting, but by practicing and playing word games it can become a very fun process. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in English Language Arts in May 2012 from the University of [more]

Special Education Certified

I have taught and I am familiar with Saxon Phonics. During the 5 years I was a resource inclusion teacher, I was required to teach students phonics that were in special education and needed additional instruction outside of the general education classroom. I have and currently teach children with special needs for 12 years. I worked in the MHMR field as a case manager for 10 years prior to getting certified as a special education teacher. My belief is that all children can learn and should learn as much as they possibly can in order to be part of society. These lessons should always include [more]

Former counselor and teacher with caring and patient attitude

As an elementary teacher for 7 years, I enjoyed teaching phonics. I loved giving my students various ways of learning it. I incorporated it in our daily schedule to be part of the way they would succeed in reading. I made it an attainable goal where each one would succeed with "flying colors!" I have a Master's degree in Education/Counseling and a Bachelor's degree in elementary/special education. I am passionate about Education and love to assist others to gain self-confidence, set goals, and succeed.
