Patient and Certified Prek- 8th Grade Teacher for More Than 20 Years

I have taught in both the private and public systems for over 20 years. The state of Georgia has certified me to teach in this subject area. For the past 9 years I have used the Saxon Phonics system and the Montessori Method to successfully teach phonics to students in grades 2 - Pre-K. I have in the past used these skills to work with students in the Chapter 1 Reading Program I for third grade students in our public school system. While obtaining my degree in Elementary Education, we were required to complete several courses on implementing phonics training. [more]

Former Elementary Teacher

I graduated from Southern CT State University with a BA in Elementary Education, and a BS in Sociology. Many children struggle with different aspects of learning to read. Phonics is one such aspect that can cause problems with reading, speaking, and spelling. Phonics is the basic instruction that teaches the relationships between letters and sounds. It involves learning how to connect the sounds of spoken English with letters or groups of letters that create sounds. Phonics teaches us to use these relationships to speak, read, and write words. There are a variety of skills to tackle when t [more]

M.Ed Wilson Trained Reading Instructor

I have been trained in the Wilson Method of reading instruction, a very in depth model with high success rates for challenged readers. I also hold a Master's in Education. My students must be willing to commit to at least two sessions per week, long term, with parent involvement. The investment is high, but so is the pay off! Thank you! Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "I cannot live without books." My goal is to encourage struggling readers to feel the same way! I consider it an honor to help children fall in love with books who have previously found reading frustrating. My family owned a [more]

Elementary school is the best!

I use Zoophonics to teach letters, sounds, and blending. Each letter has an animal that represents it to help students put a movement with the letter to help them learn the sounds. We then take the sounds and build small cvc words and begin reading sentences. I have been teaching kindergarten and first grade for 10 years. I love this aged children and feel all kids can learn they just need a little fun and motivation. I am currently a first grade teacher. This is mainly a summer job to help children retain information taught to them during the school year. I teach phonics using a program c [more]
