I was placed in this class at the second semester of my freshman year in high school due to excelling my basic math course in my first semester. I got an A in the class. The school considered me ready to take Algebra I at the beginning of my sophomore year. Over the years, I have tutored many students in math and science. I have learned how to make a sometimes complex subject into something fun & simple. Since I made the decision to learn the math, I have excelled in the subject ever since. This resulted in my peers and family asking me for help in math & science for over 25 years. During m [more]

While getting my degree in applied mathematics at UNM I tutored all levels of math. Hey I'm John! Growing up with teachers for parents, I have had a lifelong love of teaching and especially teaching math. When given the opportunities to teach math classes and take a job as a science tutor in college, I jumped at the chances. Once I finished with my bachelors in applied mathematics (and minor in chemistry) I spent a year teaching at a small high school in Albuquerque, NM before deciding to return to school to pursue a graduate degree in math. As a masters student, I accept... [more]

I have six years of teaching experience in undergraduate chemistry, including TA experience, one-on-one tutoring, and as an instructor at UNM (2016) and CNM (2016-present). My basic philosophy in teaching is to encourage students to ask questions, especially in the sciences. I enjoy teaching groups of students but feel that I connect even better in one-on-one sessions where instructor/student dialogue is most helpful. In teaching chemistry, which many students find difficult because it is ha... [more]

Prealgebra is the precursor to future Algebra classes and essentially all Math courses. Work here can begin with simple multiplication and division, working up to beginning Algebraic equations. The main focus however, is generally in word problems. A good foundation in understanding and solving word problems not only creates a basis in Mathematics, but also prepares the student for real-life situations. Topics include: working with fractions, decimals, percents, positive/negative integers, rational numbers, ratios and proportions, and algebraic equations. [more]
