In addition to teaching high school students in algebra, I have taught and promoted the important fundamentals that lead to a more concrete understanding of algebra (using hands-on and concrete approaches) in elementary and middle school-grade levels . *** Treat the Student, Not the Problem *** It's often the case that students are trying to save time and parents are trying to save money. To both those ends, my personalized form of tutoring is meant to help students leverage what they already know to do more in order to reduce the need for "hand-holding" and increase the ability to think cr [more]

Hello! My name is Christine, and I have been teaching since 2004. I have a B.S. in chemical engineering from UC Berkeley and a M.S. in mathematics from California State University. I currently teach at the University level and have taught everything from basic math and algebra all the way up to calculus. I started my college career at a community college. The first class I ever taught was Intro to Statistics and it is the class I have taught more than any other course. I have also taught... [more]

I really enjoy teaching Pre-Algebra topics, especially topics like prime numbers and factorization. These topics don't have to be boring. In fact, if you get to know a little about the history of how these ideas were discovered, you might find them fascinating. I can understand why a lot of students these days fall behind or lose interest in math. Subjects like Algebra and Trigonometry are taught in such a way that if you fall behind just a little bit, it can seem almost impossible to catch up. And once that happens, a student?s enthusiasm and self confidence can go downhill fast. Today?s ma [more]

I taught algebra for two years at a Denver Public high school and have another three years experience tutoring basic math through calculus at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Red Rocks Community College. The SAT is heavily focused on algebra and I scored a 790 on the math section (top 1%). I have been teaching and tutoring for over ten years. I taught both high school math (algebra and geometry) and elementary for six years in Denver Public Schools. Prior to this, I tutored at both Red Rocks Community College and the University of Colorado at Boulder while completing my undergraduate [more]

I have 12 years experience in education including 5 years teaching math directly. Experience tutoring a middle school student in math, including prealgebra, algebra, and algebra 2. Hi! I'm Melanie. I have 12 years of experience in education, including teaching and tutoring Math in middle and high school. I love working with students and helping them be the best they can be. My favorite thing about tutoring is helping instill a confidence in students that they can excel in their work. I enjoy teaching math up to the 9th/10th grade level, and I love helping students who struggle with Algebra. If your child will not accept your help, or you don't like/remember solving for x, I would be happy to come to your rescue! I will ensure that your student understands concepts before moving forward at his or her pace. I helped a high school student advance from not understanding multiplication, to a B in Algebra I, so she could meet the Math requirement for graduation. I have 20+ years of experience working one on one with K-12 students and adults. Many have had special needs (LD [more]

I started tutoring math when I was in high school, and I have tutored and taught for over 15 years since then. I most recently co-taught Algebra in a middle school, where I made connections to real life examples, and used a variety of strategies and explanations to make the work accessible. Students grew in their abilities and their identities as young mathematicians. I've also supported small group work with girls who lacked confidence in math. We started with what they could do, and I showed them how to take it one step at a time, until they accomplished more challenging work. They learned [more]

I have enjoyed tutoring pre-algebra for 3 years and have never failed to help a student raise their grades anywhere from one to three levels. My rates are low because I resumed tutoring after retirement from a successful career for the enjoyment of helping students gain the skills to succeed in furthering their education. Pre-algebra is an important subject to master because it lays the groundwork in mathematical logic that is needed to continue on in high school math and potentially into college. Most of the math learned in pre-algebra stems from mastering a relatively small number of concept [more]

I've worked in the analytical software business for a number of years, and have trained software engineers for Fortune 500 companies worldwide. I have extensive practical experience with using math and science for software applications. I have run a software consulting business for over 15 years. I have taught computer science courses for CU/Boulder and Red Rocks Community College. I have B.S. degrees in computer science and physics from Colorado State University. So...why be a tutor? I... I have always been curious about how the world works, and I love to bring others into that same curiosity. I work to understand different learning styles and bring in real-world examples from an area my students are interested in, and I connect concepts across disciplines: for example, I might use a biological concept to create context for a chemistry problem. I have tutored remedial chemistry at the high school level and AP Chemistry. I have also taught AP Biology at a local high school ... [more]
