Hello! I am Kim...and a former elementary and middle school teacher with 20+ years of classroom and tutoring experience. During this time I have seen many students struggle for various reasons. Sometimes they simply needed extra help getting over a tough concept or a boost of confidence in their ability to understand. Sometimes they lost traction long ago and feel totally hopeless. Often when students fall behind in studies their next step is to "shut down" in the classroom. Kids g... [more]

I am KY and TN state certified in middle school math. I taught developmental math and college math at two year colleges. I also spent a year at a public school as a fifth grade math coach. I served as the math lab coordinator at Austin Peay State University for two years. As a test prep coach, I tutor math on a daily basis. This almost always involves some degree of pre-algebra as students often need a review of the basics before moving on to more difficult mathematical problems. I'm great at explaining the basic math concepts in multiple ways, so students can fully grasp the concepts. [more]

Complication needn't be the case in the majority of situations. My own specialties are many--I know a fair amount across a broad spectrum of domains. Philosophy is a personal favorite of mine, along with religion. If you need something I haven't listed as a specialty, that doesn't necessarily mean I can't h... [more]

Pre-algebra is the bridge between the familiar world of concrete arithmetic to the more abstract concepts used in algebra. The analogy is that of going from learning the alphabet and spelling words, to sentence structure and complex grammar. Mathematics is a language for describing the physical world in order to understand it and to make predictions or solve problems. I can help students to see that the abstract mathematics that seems so strange is really just a different way of describing things that they already know intuitively because they experience them in the "real world" every day!
