Math (Prealgebra) isn't as scary as most people think. I know this because I used to be terrified of the subject. A lot of it had to do with the old way of teaching. Thankfully, a lot has changed. I've learned a lot about the new methods for teaching and understanding math and found them to be extremely helpful to the group of students that just don't seem to get it like the other kids. We'll be using manipulatives, methods for conceptual organization, and discussion in order to think about math and not just memorize rules and formulas. The best part is seeing the look of relief once the s [more]

I taught high school math: General Math, Elementary Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry for 10 years. The most experience was in Geometry. I enjoy the one-on-one relationship with students and tailor my style of presentation to methods the student responds best to. I pioneered the packet method of having students work at their own pace. This was helpful in understanding how different students learn. I have a degree in Mathematics from Newcomb College of Tulane as well as an... [more]

I enjoy helping others succeed. As both a high school and college student, I balanced a demanding class schedule with athletics and other endeavors. I understood that grasping concepts were just as important as understanding how to get to the right answer. By knowing the concepts, when variations would arise, you can still solve them. That is the approach I take to tutoring. I hope to pass along knowledge of the concepts. I've instructed, coached, mentored, and trained a variety of in... [more]
