I completed a B.S. in Biology where my highest math class completed was Calculus I. I started tutoring fellow classmates during the latter part of my time in college and continued on a volunteer basis for some time with underserved middle and high school students. What I most enjoy about tutoring is the "ah-ha" moment I see a student experience. I strive to help students understand foundational principles about the subject we're studying. My goal is to allow students to be more self reliant in order to replicate the process of achieving academic success in the future.... [more]

In college I began volunteering with students in inner city schools in Los Angeles. This was a great challenge because the students do not get a great amount of attention from instructors, which was not the case with my previous students. Furthermore, although the students spoke English well, I often had to discuss their aptitude, streng... [more]

When tutoring pre-algebra I try and focus on the different skills needed to master algebra. After heading a middle school math tutoring department, I've noticed that topics such as order of operations, using fractions, and the coordinate system can cause students to get frustrated. Our time will be spent on normalizing these topics, as well as homework help. Hello there! "No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care. " The foundation of my teaching is developing a caring, nurturing relationship. Trust is the key and without a patient caring person, my skill set is meaningless. I take the time to find where a student is at and then lead them from there to where they need to be. It takes time and patience to do so. I provide both the what of education and the why. I have over 50 years' experience in education. That is evenly divided... [more]
