I took Prealgebra in 6th grade. Though I'd always been a strong math student, I struggled with the transition to the higher level concepts. I overcame that lack of intuitive understanding, however, and went on to a fruitful study of mathematics up through six semesters of calculus. I believe I can help a struggling student make the transition from arithmetic to higher mathematical concepts. Hello, and welcome to Corey L. Tutoring. I began tutoring Pre-algebra as a volunteer at an inner city elementary school in Baltimore, MD. for about 3 years. Typically, students struggle in Pre-algebra because they are not skilled with basic math facts, so I make sure they are proficient in that. Tutoring as a volunteer has helped me to quickly target weak areas and help the student to improve upon those. Helping students who are struggling in math is my passion. Professionally, I?ve been in accounting. However, I have tutored students in Prealgebra for several years. I attempt to teach in laymen?s terms. I tutor in a way that meets the student's understanding. I don't follow any teaching method. I just explain and allow the student to demonstrate that they understand and can do the work. If they don't, I try to explain in a different way. I have had a student from algebra through geometry. She did not understand how her teacher was explaining it to her or she would forget. We reviewed the summaries in the text book and worked through problems [more]
