This is the best year to start tutoring. The problem your child may have is not serious yet. This is the time when your child becomes friend with numbers. He/she needs to familiarize himself/herself relationships between numbers. When I say relationships between numbers, I mean like 48 is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48. Then if your child see an addition of fraction where denominators are different, it's very easy to find the least common multiple. Mathematics can be so much fun you get to know numbers well. [more]

I love teaching. More specifically, I love being part of someone's discovery that math isn't really a foreign language and that writing doesn't have to be a torturous process. I believe that learning should be fun, and enjoy seeing the satisfaction, confidence, and wonder that comes with understanding and success. As a high school senior, I student taught a sophomore biology class as part of an education course, and assisted with developmentally delayed and ESL courses. At Seattle Central Co... [more]

Prealgebra is the time to develop intuitive understanding of fundamental concepts that will ensure success through the following years of math. In algebra and beyond, it's common to be tripped up by the mechanical procedures. Prealgebra is the time to lay the groundwork in concepts and familiarity so the later concepts feel intuitive rather than intimidating. I personally received top grades in classes from pre-algebra through advanced college math, and have successfully tutored students (formally and informally) at all levels. [more]

My introduction to tutoring began in high school when my SAT tutor first asked me to tutor the SSAT to middle school students. I didn?t think much of it at the time other than a temporary opportunity for work and an extension of studying the SAT. After graduating Garfield H.S. I attended the University of Washington and took on several part time jobs, including tutoring students at Whitman Middle School as part of the SESO GEAR UP program. I also tutored student athletes in courses I had take... [more]
