As students progress in math from the basics into preparation for algebra, they need to begin thinking of numbers in more abstract ways. They need to understand different kinds of fractions and negative numbers, which we don?t see around us in our everyday world. They need to think of addition and multiplication in new and more advanced ways. I show my students how these concepts relate to the world they know and how they can easily understand them. One of my students was recently hopelessly confused by integers, and after one tutoring session, she understood them and was suddenly getting [more]

I absolutely love tutoring Pre-algebra. It is a key stepping stone to all of high school math. Students can succeed in pre-algebra with proper tutoring even if they have had difficulties in the past.Their difficulties often can be resolved when they learn proper tools and strategies. Tutoring while guiding the student is my purpose. I believe that all students can learn and become high achievers if they are given the appropriate tools and strategies. I have an MBA from Ohio State University, a BA in Economics and a BBA in Management (from St. Mary's at Notre Dame). I have a minor in humani [more]

Although my master's degree is in a different field, math is one of my favorite subjects to teach and to learn. I have taken a number of college courses in math education and algebra, and I am currently teaching myself trigonometry and analytical geometry. I have many years experience teaching math to grades 5-8. At my last school, I taught algebra to junior and high school students on an individual basis, much like tutoring, using several different computer platforms. I also taught pre-algebra to students in small groups, according to what skills they needed to pass the AIMS test. In tuto [more]

Hello, my name is Dr. Kelly, and I am well versed in mathematics, physics, and the medical sciences. I got my undergraduate degrees in physics and economics and my doctor of naturopathic medicine degree from SCNM. I currently teach anatomy and physiology. I believe that a good tutor gets to know their student and understands what THEIR problems are and attends to them instead of just trying to hammer all the concepts into their head. In my experience, even the most abstract mathematical or ... [more]

I have special education experience, which helps me to serve students at a wide range of ability levels in mathematics. I have always excelled in mathematics. I had good teachers in middle school and high school, and they laid a mathematics foundation that allowed me to score 780 on SAT Math and 790 on GRE Quantitative (maximum score was 800 when I took each test). I never lost points on geometry questions on either of those tests. Today [more]
