Hello prospective students (and parents, spouses, or loved ones), My goal as a tutor is not just to teach you just enough to let you pass that next exam. I work with my students so that they not only know the material that we are covering, but also so that they understand the meaning of the material, the background behind it, and how to apply it in the real world. This allows for my students to handle those really difficult problems where they have to not just recite what was learned, but us... [more]

As a high school teacher, I've had many students come to me for help at lunch and after school. By defining mathematical terms and explaining solutions step-by-step, I have been able to assist numerous students with their pre-algebra and other math classes. Understanding exponents, fractions, percentages, radicals and reciprocals and triangles is critical to success with pre-algebra. Prealgebra contains the fundamental mathematical tools that students will be using throughout the rest of middle school, high school, and college. I often find that students who are struggling in higher mathematics do so because they never developed a facility for manipulating fractions, exponents, roots, or factoring. To get good at this stuff takes both a lot of practice and solid conceptual understandings. I currently tutor prealgebra at Center City Public Charter Schools in D.C. Writing is hard. Formal writing can be even harder. Maybe you have to write a paper for school. Maybe you wan [more]

During my time at UC Berkeley, I volunteered in an after school program for troubled high school school students. My twelve students specifically struggled with Pre-Algebra, when they should have been in Algebra 2. I taught them the metric system, prime numbers, slope intercept formula, etc. It was important to explain each concept thoroughly and maintain their motivation. As a result, all of my students passed Pre-Algebra that year with an A, and ten of my twelve students tested out of Algebra 1 and began the upcoming school year in Algebra 2. It brought me absolute joy to help these high sch [more]

I have helped students understand math from elementary math to prealgebra. Learning the basis of prealgebra is extremely important because it will prepare students for algebra 1 and 2. I encourage students to write out steps to each math problem until they are comfortable with the topic. Hello, My name is Chino. My name is Milan and I have been a tutor for over 7 years now! I first started tutoring at my community college through a tutoring program by our mathematics department. I quickly realized I had a knack for tutoring because of my unique tutoring methods. I like to enjoy expanding on concepts in mathematics and social sciences so much so that I chose my major because of those subjects. I graduated from University of California, Davis where I studied Managerial Economics and Statistics. Since I... [more]
