My greatest strength as a tutor (beyond really knowing the subjects I tutor) is my ability to adapt to and match the way you learn. A close second is my ability to take abstract concepts and make them much more understandable. I don?t do ?tricks? since it takes as much effort to memorize tons of tricks as it does to actually learn the stuff (though I do have plenty of ideas on how to do things more easily). What I do do is teach solid theory, techniques, and study skills as simply and directl... [more]

Hello prospective students (and parents, spouses, or loved ones), My goal as a tutor is not just to teach you just enough to let you pass that next exam. I work with my students so that they not only know the material that we are covering, but also so that they understand the meaning of the material, the background behind it, and how to apply it in the real world. This allows for my students to handle those really difficult problems where they have to not just recite what was learned, but us... [more]

As a high school teacher, I've had many students come to me for help at lunch and after school. By defining mathematical terms and explaining solutions step-by-step, I have been able to assist numerous students with their pre-algebra and other math classes. Understanding exponents, fractions, percentages, radicals and reciprocals and triangles is critical to success with pre-algebra. Hello, my name is Michael, and I am a currently licensed teacher with a California clear credential and over 8 years of classroom experience. I tutor middle school and high school math and science everyday. Hello! My name is Nick and I am an Emory University graduate with a degree in environmental science. Frankly, I love learning, and I spend most of my free time reading books. I believe the pursuit of knowledge to be the greatest pursuit in life and I hope to instill this mindset into each and every student that I mentor. My success is derived not only from teaching the material to students but from also sparking a genuine interest in the material. My greatest strength lies in my ability to ga... [more]

*Availability updated every Saturday afternoon* Hi! My name is Jorge and I am a bilingual (English and Spanish) third year math major at UC Irvine. The first time I tutored someone was the summer before junior year in high school. I got a perfect score on the math portion of the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) and then signed up for a program where I gave my name and phone information. I got a call from a concerned mother who needed her son to pass the exam to graduate high school... [more]

My name is Milan and I have been a tutor for over 7 years now! I first started tutoring at my community college through a tutoring program by our mathematics department. I quickly realized I had a knack for tutoring because of my unique tutoring methods. I like to enjoy expanding on concepts in mathematics and social sciences so much so that I chose my major because of those subjects. I graduated from University of California, Davis where I studied Managerial Economics and Statistics. Since I... [more]

During my time at UC Berkeley, I volunteered in an after school program for troubled high school school students. My twelve students specifically struggled with Pre-Algebra, when they should have been in Algebra 2. I taught them the metric system, prime numbers, slope intercept formula, etc. It was important to explain each concept thoroughly and maintain their motivation. As a result, all of my students passed Pre-Algebra that year with an A, and ten of my twelve students tested out of Algebra 1 and began the upcoming school year in Algebra 2. It brought me absolute joy to help these high sch [more]
