I have been a contributing author on 4 books in the UK written at a Prealgebra level. I have over 10 years teaching experience at this level. I am confident my patient tutoring approach will support students who find math a challenge and enable them to gain increased confidence in the subject. For student who are aiming to get prepared for Algebra 1 and beyond, I have the knowledge and resources to challenge these students and make them think about the math in new ways. I am a math teacher with more than 10 years of teaching experience. I am currently teaching at a high school, but have extens [more]

As a full-time tutor, I see a lot of math problems, including prealgebra. I find that the transition to algebra is often compounded by a lack of a strong foundation in math basics. Thus, I often begin with topics such as negatives, fractions, decimals, and the order of operations to make sure the start is solid. From there, we dive into the algebraic concepts, such as how algebra is actually just that same "order of operations" done in reverse. Whatever the student sees, they should do the opposite in the problem. Thinking in those terms often helps smooth over the transition. [more]

Hey! My name is Rochelle and I am a recent biomechanical engineering major from Hope College. Math is my strong subject and I can tutor in just about any type of math you may need help with. I will work to teach critical thinking skills during the lesson because that is the best skill to have when it comes to learning math. I was an engineering lab teaching assistant back in college where I helped students with math, computers, and critical thinking. I will be a great tutor. I am dedicated ... [more]

My name is Na L. and I'm a PhD student of mechanical engineering at Oakland University. Because of my background in engineering, I have strong skills in mathematics, physics and chemistry. I am originally from Beijing, China. Mandarin is my primary language and so I am capable of teaching Chinese as well. During my undergraduate program, I was a teaching assistant for a tutoring class and helped to organize the class, checked attendance, graded homework and exams, answered questions, etc. ... [more]

Pre-Algebra is the basis for all math concepts. I teach in a lively and engaging manner, and I work to make sure students understand the connections between pre-algebra and the real world. By doing so, I have helped many students remember concepts that would be lost so easily without appropriate practice. I have worked with students in this subject for over a decade now. I have been tutoring for the last 12 years throughout middle school, high school, and college. I worked as a director of a program coordinating mentor and mentee pairing for Harvard Students and high school students in Boston. [more]

Welcome! I currently work as a CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) Engineer at General Motors. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors in Mechanical Engineering from the Schreyer Honors College at The Pennsylvania State University. I have a diverse cultural background, having grown up in both the U.S. and in India, for nearly equal portions of my life. When I was younger I never enjoyed studying, not many of us do at that age, and because of that lack of interest, I wasn't an especially good ... [more]

It always bothered me when students got "turned off" to math at an early age, due to a bad teacher, frustration, or lack of interest. Math is a basic skill that is needed to manage life. I try to ease anxiety and give confidence to students, so they believe that they CAN do math! When I first meet with a student, I try to assess strong and weak understanding of concepts. I present material as necessary if a student is totally lost, then we do some drill work, repeatedly solving certain ty... [more]

I have taught at Davenport University for over 10 years now. I have taught subjects at the Bachelors and Masters level. I have taught Finance, Marketing, Leadership, Accounting, Economics, Physics and Mathematics. I love to teach and do it with passion. I won "Instructor of the Year" award at Davenport in 2000-2001... I have taught from k thru 12. I taught 7th grade Special Ed. for two years. I am patient. As a Grinnell graduate in English Literature, I particularly enjoy helping translate story problems into mathematical numbers and terms. From GRE Rate/Work problems to Pre-Algebra operations of equality, I like to empower the student with an open mind and with a 'can-do' attitude. I have taught with DPS, from kindergarten to Honors 12th grade English. I have tutored from pre-algebra to Algebra 2 and Geometry for students at Cass Tech., Dunkel Middle School, Farmington High School, Levy Middle... [more]

Prealgebra is the basic introduction of using variables and numbers to count, add, subtract, and multiply and divide to solve basic equations and functions for all number lines, x and y coordinates and function tables in preparation for modern Algebra I. To all interested parents and students, my twenty plus years working in the the Detroit area public schools has given me a very good understanding of what students need in the classrooms. I've learned how to deal with students needing academic support by being very patient with the learning process. I taught mathematics on the high school and [more]
