During this past year, I was one of the Pre-Calculus teachers at the Army and Navy Academy. I am very familiar with the topics that students have trouble with. I have been teaching Physics for the past 5 years and I truly love it. Before that, I tutored it for 4 years. In college I chose Physics as my major because I enjoyed it and it made sense to me. I decided to tutor it because I wanted others to see the same things. My goal, still, is to show my students that Physics is not hard and can be fun to learn. I have taught at large public schools and small private ones. I am not limited t [more]

My mastery of the tools required for my career as a physicist requires a pretty strong ability with all of the ideas that fall under the umbrella ?precalculus.? That ability extends to ?you only really know something when you can teach it.? My 'light' reading is books on the development of mathematics: the origin of the logarithm, the origin of complex numbers, the origin of zero, etc. Cell population exponential or geometric growth and radioactive decay as well as determining what is happing with my investments are daily examples of relationships I must know to predict outcomes in the lab [more]

I'm a college professor with 25+ years of experience teaching mathematics and computer programming. My favorite subjects include precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, optimization and numerical analysis. I believe the only way to learn mathematics or computer programming is by working through many exercises and problems. There's no way around this. It doesn't matter how well a lecture is presented or how good the teacher is. If you don't do the work yourself, you'll probably not succeed. ... [more]

My students have achieved academic success in all these subjects. I am a caring dedicated professional, who is truly concerned about the students progress in the specific subject material. I feel having a sound foundation in the basic concepts of the subject is the primary starting point when teaching. If a student falls behind in the beginning of a cour... [more]

Specifically, I graduated high school with an I.B. Diploma, and I graduated from the University of California - Davis with my Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering. I can understand the struggle of learning new math concepts and aid in not only a straightforward solution to a problem, but help teach a new way of looking at the current problem that will help in further education. During college where I received my undergraduate degree, I also worked for a company, Unitrans. There I was a conductor where communication with passengers was very important. As a chemical engineering student I t [more]
