Study of Precalculus serves as a preparation for Calculus and other higher level math subjects. It deepens student's understanding of the concepts learned previously in Algebra 2 and Geometry, as well as introducing new concepts and ideas, like Polar coordinates, Vectors, and Parametric equations. When I work with students in Precalculus, I teach them extensively the concepts of Trigonometry, various families of Functions, Analytic Geometry (Parabolas, Ellipses, etc.), and Sequences/Series. In addition, I teach them how to use the graphing calculator more effectively. Graphing calculator is a [more]

Much of my work with precalculus students has consisted of a thorough review of trigonometry, finite and infinite series and sequences, and analytic geometry. My approach is always to be sure that the basics are mastered before attempting more advanced topics (e.g., students need to have mastered the graphical properties of linear functions before working on quadratic ones (hyperbolas, ellipses, parabolas). I have over 30 years of experience as a tutor and lecturer in mathematics and physics, both before and after I completed my physics & biology BA at UC Berkeley and my physics PhD at the Uni [more]

A little bit about me: In May 2015, I graduated summa cum laude from the Dominican University of California, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies/Teacher Education, a minor in mathematics and Honors. While at Dominican, I had ample classroom and one-on-one experience with students. I worked as an assistant teacher in six different elementary... [more]

When I began tutoring a few years ago, I firmly believed that anyone could do well in mathematics, all the way through Calculus, provided you are relatively fluent in a few formulas and make time for regular problem sets. My experience over that time has only confirmed my suspicions, and its has been a great pleasure to work with many of my students. I have always found joy in getting to the point of a big concept and keeping the focus on the purposeful real-world applications that many of ... [more]

I'm a lifetime learning enthusiast who loves to share! My focus is on compassionate instruction; I work to build up students study skills while mastering the material in a constructive, supporting environment. My formal education consists of a BS in Mathematics and a BA in Economics. I have supplemented these informally by reading widely in Philosophy, History, Political Science, Biology, and Physics. I have a great passion for the history of ideas, which allows me to convey a subject's pla... [more]

I am currently a student myself working on my Bachelors degree in Psychology, but from a young age I've enjoyed to help others. Since elementary school I have been asked by my peers for help with school work and have found joy in seeing others grow intellectually. Threw out my high school years I tutored many students, and have learned different approaches to take to accommodate to students individual needs to achieve success in they're understanding of the subjects they are struggling or nee... I have been studying physics and math for over ten years now, and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's from Haverford College and with a PhD from UCLA. I have continued so long in these fields because I really enjoy learning and I want to bring that love of learning to you. I often have fun facts that I like to throw in as asides, to connect what we are working on to the real world. I prefer to teach the understanding of the material rather than just how to get the answer, which I ... [more]
