I am passionate about helping students succeed by improving grades and understanding in academic classes and increasing their test scores as much as possible. I graduated from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) with high honors and a degree in Biochemistry. I then went on to complete graduate coursework and passed the CPA exam (arguably one of the most difficult tests out there). Currently, I am enrolled in the University of California Irvine (UCI) College Counseling Certificate pr... [more]

I have been teaching and tutoring math since I was in college, and have been doing it professionally for the last 15 years. I tutor mostly high school and college students, but I have tutored 3rd grade thru univesity too. I enjoy math and I have many different ways to approach difficult subjects. I am NOT big on memorizing formulas, although there are a few that DO need to be memorized. I try to approach math from a logical perspective so that the formulas and functions make sense. I am ... Precalculus is a catchall of topics that need to be in place before going on to calculus. Included among these topics are conic sections, polar coordinates, vectors, matrices, and probability theory. I also enjoy connecting with the student to explore the concept of the limit and how it relates to the slope of a secant line. I believe students should be confident in their math skills. By getting good grades in school, their options in life (e.g. jobs, career paths) are kept open. I gauge where the student is at in knowing the concepts by having him/her work out the problems. Every problem h [more]

Most of precalculus takes the algebra 2 topics and adds more detail. The mathematical reasoning becomes more rigorous as topics like limits and trigonometry is explored. I have helped failing students pass the class with only three or four months left of the school year and I have also aided students from the beginning of the subject to its end. I know the problem chapters and have had ample experience explaining these ideas. I have been around instructors for my entire life. My mother was a general tutor for the neighborhood and I helped her when our small apartment was stuffed with children [more]

Whether it's the study of Conic Sections and their standard equations, the use of the Permutations or Combinations formulae to count sample spaces in introductory Probability, or an introduction to Sequences, Series, and the Limiting Process, Precalculus mathematics tend to confuse most students because of the eclectic array of topics. My background in the Physical Sciences has equipped me with an effective and inexhaustible supply of examples, illustrations of the utility of these analytic tools and techniques that come from a mastery of the subject. I've led select groups of students at pri [more]

I have 12 years paid tutoring experience and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from UCSD with a minor in Science Education. Most of my tutoring experience is with students between grades 7-12 primarily in Mathematics and science, but I also tutor Spanish, English, and College level Mathematics and Sciences. I can come to you, either at your home or a neutral location such as a library. I love learning and I love helping others learn. It makes me really happy to see students succeed and grow in... As a building block on Algebra 2, and prior to Calculus, this is an important subject for students who want to pursue a career in a technology or science field. I have vast experience tutoring Algebra 2 not only because I have hundreds of hours with this subject but because of my engineering background. I have more than 15 years of experience in tutoring students of all ages and levels of education from elementary to graduate school. I am most interested in changing the way my students perceive themselves when approaching math. Throughout the years, I have had the most rewarding experience whe [more]

I'd love to make sure you succeed in your STEM classes! I graduated with high honors from Mills College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Currently, I am a graduate student at UC Irvine, working towards getting my Ph.D in Chemistry. Throughout my undergraduate, I was a peer tutor for calculus 1 and 2 and general chemistry, was a TA for general chemistry and upper division thermodynamics, and was an active researcher in the department (focusing on cool atmospheric chemistry!). A... [more]

I have 5 years of experience tutoring Precalculus and 7 years tutoring Calculus. I currently work with groups of students in various classes which include Precalculus and similar Algebra classes. 7 years of tutoring experience in Algebra 1 and 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Physics. I just graduated a year ago from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I got a bachelors in electrical engineering and almost got a minor in math. I've been tutoring math since I was a junior in high school and have also been a personal grader for math, physics, and engineering professors at my university. [more]

In my opinion, Pre-Calculus is the most difficult math class offered at the high school level. The trigonometry portion presents many new and difficult concepts, but the algebra portion takes everything from Algebra II deeper making everything very complex and solving problems you don't really see any reason to solve. In truth, the main objective is to solidify your Algebra skills. Most of the problems that are presented are much more easily solved in Calculus next year. I am a UCI honors graduate in mathematics with a minor in computer science. I started tutoring as a favor for a friend and [more]
