Since calculus is my favorite mathematical field, I have a strong sense of importance for precalculus ideas. Precalculus prepares a mathematics student for the abstract leap needed to fully make sense of calculus. I love teaching precalculus and calculus because it forces any student to think about mathematics in a whole new, but fascinating way. Any student will see the beauty of this field if given the right kind of instruction. Precalculus material often tends to be the first opportunity for a student to really get excited about mathematics, and as a teacher, it is a wonderful opportunity f [more]

Hi all, I am a tutor with over 15 years of experience, teaching and tutoring mathematics. I love that ah ha moment when a student gets it. Learning should be fun, empowering and exciting. I am an author, a professor, and a very experienced designer, programmer and media producer with a passion for teaching, learning, innovation and education. I believe that enthusiasm, dreams and accomplishment are the best motivators for education. I teach through a combination of traditional sk... [more]

My approach to tutoring is informed by my past academic struggles. When I was a freshman at Princeton, I quickly realized that my high school, located in an economically depressed area in south Texas, had not adequately prepared me for the diverse range of college coursework. Having had to overcome that, I know the frustration and self-defeating strategies--like procrastination--that students often develop and I am especially sensitive to supporting my students. Sometimes that means being ... [more]

Currently I am a teacher of Chemistry and Physics at a CA High School. Later I taught Chemistry (the subject of my degree) to the same standard. I have many former students who have studied at the top UK Universities; Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, Durham, Imperial London and so ... [more]

Hi! I've been a tutor since high school, though my first paying tutoring gig turned up after I'd graduated and moved away for college. I've worked at college tutoring centers, private academies, and independently. My experience at tutoring centers was as a drop-in tutor -- students could arrive at the tutoring center without having made an appointment to receive a quick lesson or two. At the private academy, I was an SAT instructor for small classrooms, with no more than eight students per s... [more]

If you were stranded on a deserted island, could you reinvent Algebra? Calculus? Trigonometry? I could! Not that that would be the most practical thing to do, but once you understand the basic concepts, you will be able to do the same. I am a strong believer in understanding concepts and knowing fundamentals, NOT in doing math by rote. I will certainly help you get your homework done and get better grades, but I will also make sure that you understand it! I teach students techniques... [more]
