One of Wyzant's top tutors ! Susan is a fantastic Precalculus tutor and passionate about teaching math. She enjoys tutoring this subject. She completely and clearly explains the concepts, prepares the student for any upcoming quizzes or tests, and prepares them for their final exam. In Precalculus, the student typically needs to know everything about trigonometry ( She loves teaching trigonometry). Trig can be hard for some students, but she explains the concepts in a simple way and demonstrates the Unit Circle. Many teachers don't explain in detail how the Unit Circle works with tri [more]

Precalculus is a catchall of topics that need to be in place before going on to calculus. Included among these topics are conic sections, polar coordinates, vectors, matrices, and probability theory. I also enjoy connecting with the student to explore the concept of the limit and how it relates to the slope of a secant line. I believe students should be confident in their math skills. By getting good grades in school, their options in life (e.g. jobs, career paths) are kept open. I gauge where the student is at in knowing the concepts by having him/her work out the problems. Every problem h [more]

I am passionate about helping students succeed by improving grades and understanding in academic classes and increasing their test scores as much as possible. I graduated from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) with high honors and a degree in Biochemistry. I then went on to complete graduate coursework and passed the CPA exam (arguably one of the most difficult tests out there). Currently, I am enrolled in the University of California Irvine (UCI) College Counseling Certificate pr... [more]

I have tutored and studied, at a graduate level, a broad range a math topics focusing on calculus and statistics. I have found math tutoring to be one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Many students report that they do not like math and/or are not good at math. Many of the people I have tutored have experienced success in math for the first time and that success was all they needed to change their mind, at least somewhat, on both counts. I love math, and it is very rewarding ... [more]

Most of precalculus takes the algebra 2 topics and adds more detail. The mathematical reasoning becomes more rigorous as topics like limits and trigonometry is explored. I have helped failing students pass the class with only three or four months left of the school year and I have also aided students from the beginning of the subject to its end. I know the problem chapters and have had ample experience explaining these ideas. I have been around instructors for my entire life. My mother was a general tutor for the neighborhood and I helped her when our small apartment was stuffed with children [more]

In my opinion, Pre-Calculus is the most difficult math class offered at the high school level. The trigonometry portion presents many new and difficult concepts, but the algebra portion takes everything from Algebra II deeper making everything very complex and solving problems you don't really see any reason to solve. In truth, the main objective is to solidify your Algebra skills. Most of the problems that are presented are much more easily solved in Calculus next year. I am a UCI honors graduate in mathematics with a minor in computer science. I started tutoring as a favor for a friend and [more]

I have 12 years paid tutoring experience and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from UCSD with a minor in Science Education. Most of my tutoring experience is with students between grades 7-12 primarily in Mathematics and science, but I also tutor Spanish, English, and College level Mathematics and Sciences. I can come to you, either at your home or a neutral location such as a library. I love learning and I love helping others learn. It makes me really happy to see students succeed and grow in... I went to Harvard (Biology major, graduated cum laude). My day job is in investment banking/consulting, but I've always been passionate about education. So I started teaching and tutoring students on the side. Parents love what I do because I am laser focused on results and helping students achieve their very best academic work. Students love working with me because I take the time to listen and understand where they're coming from and I explain difficult concepts in a simple way. WHAT DO ... [more]

Teaching mathematics, I aim to convey to my students the thrill of discovery that comes with true understanding. To do mathematics effectively is to learn actively, through some degree of struggle and trial-and-error. Otherwise, mathematics remains a disjointed jumble of intimidating facts, easily forgotten and never appreciated. I meet students with varying skill levels, mathematical backgrounds, and academic goals, and I tailor my lessons accordingly. I bring out hands-on materials when... [more]

As a building block on Algebra 2, and prior to Calculus, this is an important subject for students who want to pursue a career in a technology or science field. I have vast experience tutoring Algebra 2 not only because I have hundreds of hours with this subject but because of my engineering background. I am highly qualified and dedicated teacher with more than 15 years of experience in tutoring students of all ages and levels of education, including undergraduate and graduate schools. My strengths lie in my ability to understand how students learn and I have decided to dedicate my time toward [more]
