As an Engineer, I found math to be my most valuable tool, useful in all sorts of applications. Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry are particularly useful in engineering and science fields. I've worked with several Pre-Calc/Trig students from local high schools and colleges to successfully pass their class. While each course presents the math in different ways, depending on school and teacher, I help students develop their math skills to meet their goals within each class, and beyond. I'm a retired engineer and math teacher with a love for teaching anyone who wants to learn. As an engineer, I regul [more]

I have been working as a tutor for 16 years. I worked with students as a peer tutor, then as a professional tutor after obtaining my Bachelor's degree and teaching credential. My favorite part of tutoring is watching my students' faces light up when they have an "ah-ha" moment. It is extremely fulfilling for me to have the opportunity to work with students in small groups and one on one rather than in a whole classroom setting. In addition to tutoring, I have been a classroom teacher ... [more]

This course is a preparation for Calculus. It is intended to deepen conceptual understanding and technical skill. The student gains an appreciation for the power of mathematics to model the real-world. Calculators extend a student?s ability to calculate and visualize mathematics. However, it is important that the student understands the concepts that underlie what the graphing calculator produces. I have and use theTI-89 calculator, so I can guide the student through anything the instructor may have demonstrated in class, from graphing regression curves or calculating infinite sums, to perfor [more]

I have a master's in mathematics and am a former mathematics instructor at Sonoma State University. I was the coordinator of the Precalculus program at EPGY (Educational Program for Gifted Youth) at Stanford University for five years. I have a Masters in Mathematics and am a former instructor at Sonoma State University. I like to keep things simple. Instead of presenting the student with a parade of ideas, I help the student to see each new topic as simply a new expression of ideas they already know. At the end, the student sees all of algebra as essentially an expression of these first few [more]

I have been at the SRJC part and full-time, for around three years now. I currently work part-time for a Santa Rosa criminal defense attorney- which has been my full time job for 3-years (I am 21 Years old). I have been a part of the PALS program, for an English Professor at the SRJC, wherein I tutored students, gave feedback on essays, and help the instructor operate his class. I'm currently a full time student- taking 16 units this semester (Calculus, Discrete Math, Computer Science, and An... [more]

I graduated in 2016 with my bachelor's degree in Education and a minor in Physics. I've always wanted to be an educator, and I currently work with college students. As a graduate student, I continue to devote my time to learning, and helping others to learn as well gives me great joy. I minored in physics in college, which meant a lot of math classes! In high school, I was valedictorian due in large part to my high grades in math. I received a 5 on my AP Calculus BC test as well. Durin... [more]

I have tutored for many years for the simple reason that I enjoy it and somehow have the knack for making the difficult seem easy. I am a very positive person and feel people learn best with encouragement. Attitude and self confidence are often as important in the learning process as the skill set. I tutor all levels of math, high school physics and Latin. For the past twelve years I have tutored all aspects and sections of the SAT extensively. I tutor the SAT one on one or in small groups.... I did well in my high high school precalculus class. Systems of equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, conic sections, trigonometry and polar coordinates are met again in calculus. In order to obtain my bachelor's in Math, I had to demonstrate competence in using everything on the list. In my years of tutoring, these topics have repeatedly been of interest. A good tutor aids a student in acquiring skill. Through the successful solving of problems, fluency is gradually developed along with confidence. I often share my personal learning in how to study to encourage new habits. M [more]
