Hi!! My name is Tevenia. I have always had a knack for math ever since I was a child, despite what my course of study may suggest. In high school I was always in accelerated math classes and I was a member of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. I spent my free period during junior and senior year, tutoring fifth graders in math at John B. Dey Elementary School, and after school I tutoring AVID students at Great Neck Middle School. It is my dream to make STEM education less daunting and more fu... [more]

As you can see from my profile, I do a lot of work with calculus and physics. Precalculus is the foundation for these subjects, covering functions, polynomial roots, and especially trigonometry: sin / cosine / tangent, complementary functions, unit circle, identities, equations, formulas and so forth. I would be happy to work with you or your child on precalculus and get you ready for whatever comes next! Looking for extra help with college / high school math or physics, or college computer science? Perhaps that AP Calculus exam is looking like a challenge, or your son or daughter would lik [more]

This course is designed to cover topics in Algebra ranging from polynomial, rational, and exponential functions to conic sections. Trigonometry concepts such as Law of Sines and Cosines will be introduced. Students will then begin analytic geometry and calculus concepts such as limits, derivatives, and integrals. This class is important for any student planning to take a college algebra or college pre-calculus class. Don't struggle through or "just get by" another school year or college semester. Together we can take your skills to the next level. My style is simple. I use technology, commo [more]

I have taught math for more than 15 years, including Precalculus. I studied mathematics at University of Davis, California, hoping to work as a math teacher or an actuary. Soon after graduating from UC Davis, I moved from California to Virginia Beach and I was able to obtain a teacher's licensure through ODU. After obtaining a teaching credential, I was hired by a local High School and taught 9th and 11th graders for a year. After taking a new job as a risk management analysis at CMA CGM, I had to quit teaching. But with a brief hiatus, I went back to te... [more]

I enjoy working with kids from elementary to high school students and above and really helping my students learn how to grasp different math concepts with eas... [more]

Pre-calculus or Math Analysis can be a bit of a struggle if the student's past math skills are stale or forgotten, and/or if he or she had a bad math teacher along the way. I first most importantly focus on continual support of the student with his/her homework to help stabilize and bring up the report card grade. In between this, I assess what the "lost math skills" are from previous years and build them up during my collaboration with the child. Relearning these previous skills will bring with it more student self-confidence and make comprehending precalculus easier from then on. [more]
