As a 3rd year Ph.D. student at Tulane, I have the experience of taking on statistics classes covering basic to advanced topics. Moreover, my work relies on statistics regularly, and I've become familiar with the techniques involved in its applications. I grew up in the Midwest and studied civil and architectural engineering in college, where I helped my classmates with their math problems. I realized it was something I enjoyed doing and started tutoring anyone who needed the help. I liked making people feel comfortable with math and boosting their confidence in their own abilities. Hi everyone! My name is Mason and I'm a third year student at the University of New Orleans who's majoring in mathematics with a concentration in actuarial science. After studying electrical engineering and being much more engaged in my math classes I decided to change the path of my life and haven't ever regretted it. Throughout my math career, I've found myself eager to explain concepts to classmates and do all I can to throughouly understand whatever it is I'm learning. These two th... [more]

I have taught probability and statistics at UNO and have passed an actuarial exam covering probability topics. I am enrolled as a PhD student in Biostatistics. I currently hold a Master of Science in mathematics (statistics). My areas of expertise are probability and statistics, high school math (algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus), college math (pre-calculus and calculus), and micro-economics. The method I have found works best is to have the student try to identify why the class is not going well. Often students get behind and get frustrated and say "I don't get it." This is not a good way [more]

In college, I took courses in Probability and Stochastic Processes. I also took Mathematical Statistics 1 and 2. I have taught probability in finite mathematics, elementary statistics, and introductory probability courses at university. I have taught from the frequentist perspective and from the Bayesian perspective. I have found that in teaching probability it is important to address student misconceptions about basic notions such as randomness, independence, conditional probability and representativeness. I have found that exploring students misconceptions about probability is very helpful [more]

My long-term aspiration from a career standpoint is to be an educator in a technical field, such as chemistry, engineering, or advanced mathematics. The best method to eventually arrive at that goal is to consistently put myself into situations to pass on the knowledge accumulated through experiences, helping people improve their lives with creative and unconventional solutions to problems, and building sustainable relationships originated from diverse groups and organizations. I believe the ... [more]
