I have earned credit for more than twenty courses in probability and statistics, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, I worked for more than thirty years as an actuary, where I frequently used probability concepts in pricing various life insurance policies. For these reasons, I believe that I can help you understand how to solve your probability problems. Teaching Experience: Adjunct instructor in over 100 finance, statistics and algebra courses at various universities throughout the Chicago land area. Have tutored many college and high school students in statistics, fin [more]

The study of randomness is at the heart of probability. While individual occurrences for the outcome of a random event (e.g. the toss of a fair coin) are impossible to predict in advance, if repeated many times the sequence of outcomes will exhibit patterns. In probability, formulas are devised for the predicted of these patterns (e.g. 50% heads, 50% tails for a sequence of coin tosses). Probability forms the mathematical foundation in inferential statistics. It is traditionally placed in between descriptive and inferential statistics in an introductory statistics class. When teaching and [more]

For the district-wide algebra exam, my students placed amongst the top of every Algebra class in the district. I continue to try different teaching strateg... [more]

Probability is a fun subject. We all use it every day whether we realize it or not. Sometimes we rely on "empirical" probabilities as when we estimate which route to work in the morning will most likely be the fastest. Other times we have to resort to "subjective" probabilities when we make picks for a World Series or Super Bowl. With the proper approach probability is actually overly difficult. I am a fun-loving, pragmatic, task master. I believe in making math fun through the use of computational tricks and short cuts that are often no longer taught in schools. I recognize that some [more]
