As a 3rd year Ph.D. student at Tulane, I have the experience of taking on statistics classes covering basic to advanced topics. Moreover, my work relies on statistics regularly, and I've become familiar with the techniques involved in its applications. I grew up in the Midwest and studied civil and architectural engineering in college, where I helped my classmates with their math problems. I realized it was something I enjoyed doing and started tutoring anyone who needed the help. I liked making people feel comfortable with math and boosting their confidence in their own abilities. I have taught probability and statistics at UNO and have passed an actuarial exam covering probability topics. I am enrolled as a PhD student in biostatistics. I currently hold a Master of Science in mathematics (statistics). My areas of expertise are probability and statistics (particularly biostatistics) , high school math (algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus), college math (pre-calculus and calculus), microeconomics, game theory, and econometrics. The method I have found works best is to have the student try to identify why the class is not going well. Often students get behind and get fr [more]

Greetings! I am currently a middle-school math teacher, on one-year leave from a PhD program in economics, a program I'll be returning to in the fall. I have over a decade of teaching and tutoring experience ranging from test prep (SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT) to undergraduate mathematics, statistics, and economics. I very much enjoy working with students in all of the above areas. My philosophy is that of a coach: I train students to be able to solve problems by themselves long after the sess... [more]

In college, I took courses in Probability and Stochastic Processes. I also took Mathematical Statistics 1 and 2. I have taught probability in finite mathematics, elementary statistics, and introductory probability courses at university. I have taught from the frequentist perspective and from the Bayesian perspective. I have found that in teaching probability it is important to address student misconceptions about basic notions such as randomness, independence, conditional probability and representativeness. I have found that exploring students misconceptions about probability is very helpful [more]

Hello Students and Parents, I am a former math teacher (4 years of experience in middle school and high school) and am now studying to be a missionary at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Tutoring has been a passion of mine since I began teaching because I have seen over and over how students utilize and appreciate the one on one learning experience over the impersonal classroom experience. I have a love for the beauty mathematics and statistics, their patterns and their power to hel... [more]

I have a PhD Degree in Educational Research with a minor in Mathematics. I have two Master's Degrees in Mathematics (MA and MS). I have a BS in Mathematics as well. I have done extensive research in pedagogical techniques and I am able to communicate with students at all levels. I enjoy teaching, especially [more]

My long-term aspiration from a career standpoint is to be a successful educator in a technical field, such as Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering. The best method to eventually arrive at that goal is to consistently put myself into situations to pass on the knowledge accumulated through experiences, helping people improve their lives with creative and unconventional solutions to problems, and building sustainable relationships originated from diverse groups and organizations. I be... [more]

As a graduation gift, I received a book on creating your mission statement for work and for life. The book influenced me to generate my life mission statement, so that deviating off my path becomes improbable. This is my mission statement: I understand I am a finite being with finite time but I hold infinite possibilities to be a beacon of light to my community. This stimulates my desire to dominate all challengers through intense preparation, to survive in uncharted situations, and to educat... [more]
